Hayseed Dixie

After seeing them last year, I went to Hamburg again to see Hayseed Dixie. I´ve hardly ever seen so brilliant musicians. Incredibly fast, incredibly funny. Besides some great originals ("Alien abduction probe", "I´m keeping your poop in a jar so when you come back I will not forget who you are" etc) you´re gonna hear Bluegrass versions of AC/DC, Kiss, CCR songs, and a lot more.
Banjo player Don Wayne Reno and mandolin player Dale Reno are sons of the late bluegrass legend Don Reno (he played with Arthur `Boogie´ Smith on the original "Dueling banjos")

Hayseed Dixie will be playing a few gigs in England and Ireland over the next days. Go see them, you will definitely not regret it !

October 21 - Friday - Hastings, England - Brass Monkey
October 22 - Saturday - Pontypridd, Wales - Muni Arts Centre
October 23 - Sunday - Worcester, England - Marrs Bar
October 25 - Tuesday - Limerick, Ireland - Dolan's Warehouse
October 26 - Wednesday - Cork Ireland - Cyprus Avenue
October 27 - Thursday - Dublin, Ireland - Button Factory

a combination of amazing names; Hayseed Dixie and Pocktoberfest (a beer festival in Pocklington). Punbelievable...

They lived up to their well thought out name, not sure I would have gone to see them specifically but they got the place rocking after the Bragg. The whole thing was ruined by old-codgers tapping their feet and demanding anyone with a soul to sit down. By the time Hayseed came on, inspired by Bragg's stand-up-and-fight-nasal-rocking, the seating was mostly on the floor.

I saw them a few years ago at a festival. They were playing a couple of sets over the course of the weekend.

The first set I thought was fun, and the musicianship was certainly impressive, so much so that I went to see their second set, on a different stage, the next day. And found that they reproduced the same set exactly. Same songs, and even the same jokes. I sort of lost interest in them after that.

So when a wheelchair-using friend of mine got tickets for their gig and tried to persuade me to go along with her, I didn't. And afterwards she told me how she'd spent much of the evening being verbally abused by a group of the band's fans for being a cripple.

Ok, that wasn't the band's fault, but I've sort of fallen out of any love I had for them now.
Likes the warm feeling but is tired of all the dehydration.

I´m sorry to hear that, firehazard. I hope your friend got over it well and fast. Unfortunately, you seem to find such idiots and a**holes anywhere.

I believe that most bands play the same set every day when they are on tour. Even our most beloved band does this. And as much as I would love a band to change their set when I go and see them for more than one gig during a tour, I sorta understand why most bands do not do that. And hey, most "established" bands only live by their songs and their greatness in the past, whereas most of their nowadays shows are merely a kind of routine. And that includes, unfortunately, saying the same things every night, introducing the songs the same way, and even sometimes telling the same jokes.

Frankly, lots of bands that I´ve been listening to for years and years and whose songs I really love, would not attract me the same way if I saw them live for the first time today, because of their formulaic appearances.
