a Nod To The Pogues "A Lifetime at Best" by The Buddies

"A Lifetime At Best", from our latest self-titled LP, gives a nod both The Pogues, as well as The Pogues song, "The Sun and The Moon".
I'd love to hear your thoughts.

A Lifetime at Best (words by C. Kennedy)

While the whiskey pours
And the band plays on
Aileen’s in my arms
You’re in my heart

we haven’t much time
a lifetime at best
a lifetime at best

old friends gather ‘round
“heard you was a star”
goodbye sleepy town
no need for you now

but I haven’t a dime
nor a nickel to spare
nor a nickel to spare
to spare

still the whiskey pours
and they’re playing our song
“The Sun and the Moon”
but the sun’s long gone

for a moment I’m lost
I wish you were here
I wish you were here

Don’t know where you are
But i know where you belong
the dark clouds have passed
another year’s come and gone

I’m just around the bend
I’m just around the bend
I'm always around

here’s to our pints
may they ever be full
here’s to the stories
we have yet to tell

here’s to you my friend
here’s to you my home
here’s to you my love

here’s to the laughter
here’s to the songs
and here’s to the black stuff
we’ll drink until dawn

here’s to you my friend
here’s to you my home
here’s to you my love

here’s to the old ones
here’s to the new
here’s to the years
I have left with you

here’s to you my friend
here’s to you my home
here’s to you my love

here’s to The King
here’s to The Stones
here’s to The Clash
The Faces and Pogues

Here’s to you my friend
Here’s to you my home
Here’s to you my love
Here's to you!
