PBS Show "Vintage Irish" Music

Post Thu Mar 18, 2010 9:50 pm

I believe this is a new collection of mostly very old clips, though still interesting. And to be fair, it is March, so PBS is using this to be "Irish" and do the fundraising thing. Hosted by Malachy McCourt and Nick Clooney. I doubt there is anything here that was done after 1970 (in other words no Pogues).
Still it was interesting to hear Maureen O'Hara sing and to see a video of the Irish Rovers doing the "Unicorn" -I actually remember meeting them backstage
when I was a kid, my uncle had an Irish Radio show in Boston.

When Irish Eyes Are Smiling: An Irish Parade of Stars

program / series description:
Vintage performances of Irish songs by Irish stars, including Bing Crosby ("Molly Malone," "McNamara's Band"), Robert Mitchum ("Too-Ra-Loo-Ra-Loo-Ra"), Maureen O'Hara ("Look to the Rainbow"), O'Hara and Rosemary Clooney ("It's a Great Day for the Irish"), the Clancy Brothers and Tommy Makem ("Brennan on the Moor," "The Whistling Gypsy"), Judy Collins ("The Lark in the Morning"), the Dubliners ("Muirsheen Durkin") and Frank Patterson ("The Fields of Athenry," "Danny Boy"). Patty Duke hosts.
