I don't have a particular problem with the lyrics. I've certainly heard a lot worse. Some of their literary borrowings are interesting. I do think think that the production on the album tends to make them a bit too Arcade Fire-y. Not that I have a particular problem with Arcade Fire either. Just the world doesn't really need another of them. Anyway, it's only a first album -- hope they move in a direction that's a bit more their own sound for future recordings if there are any.

Live, they are stonking. Looking forward to the next gig. The new vid for The Cave was filmed on their pre-Christmas mini-tour of India, I believe... and they are currently touring Australia. How these young things do get about!

There's a lot of negative comments on The Guardian's music blog about the colonial vibe of the the video. Kind of "Here's the instruments, peasants, you play them while we go off for a spin on our mopeds, good chaps".

Fuck it, I love the song.

Typical pinko liberal metropolitan elite, eh?

Great song. Though I'm not sure I've understood the words right. I tried coming out of my cave walking on my hands and did my shoulder in.

Fun gig last week in a sold-out and packed-wall-to-wall venue... "We're not used to playing in halls as big as this," they said. Good'n'hot'n'sweaty, with an enthusiastic and responsive crowd. The songs off the album got an airing, along with some new ones they were trying out. I like seeing a band when they're working on new material. A fair amount of banter from the stage too - they were more talkative than I remember from previous times. And they made fun of the student population in this city of learning and culture, which is always appropriate. However, one of the band does seem to be sporting a mullet now, which is never appropriate.

Well, I saw them last night in the most intimate venue and what a gig. Jesus, these guys are a class apart. Their album is great, but to hear them play those songs live is just incredible. The intensity of Marcus Mumford's singing and guitar is both ferocious and so amazingly delicate when required. No amount of footage on YouTube can do justice to the power these 4 (sometimes 7, when the horns and cello join in) lads create. When the bass drum (played by Marcus's right foot) kicked in on faster songs, the whole place just erupted every time.

Thanks again FireHazard for the promt on the tickets back in October, they sold out 4 months ago and were like gold dust.

One of the best gigs i was ever priviledged to be at 8) 8) 8) 8) 8)

They are playing in Sweden in April and it´s sold out. It´s a small venue but I didn´t know they were that popular over here. Love to see them if I could.

Catch 'em in small venues while you can.

They're a damn fine live band. Glad you enjoyed it, Fr McG. 8)

Some friends of mine paid around four times the ticket price for a pair of tickets for one of their recent gigs. "Was it worth it?" I asked them. "Oh yes," they said. [Note: I do not condone ticket scalping in any way.]

The lyrics aren't up to much are they? And the singer's got a touch of the Camden Whine in his voice that you hear in groups like The Wombats.

Sixty listens to 'The Cave' later and I'm eating these poorly chosen words. Now there's a song that cuts through to the core of me.
