Having given the benefit of the doubt to "Elke", i've had no reply to the email. With time difference, "she" should have had a whole working day to reply to this "desperate" situation. Maybe as i did not offer any cash (only actual help) "she" is reluctant to contact me as i may be geographically too close for comfort.

If i'm wrong in this assumption "Elke", prove to me otherwise. It's easily done by telephone.

If it's otherwise Craig, you're rapidly burning bridges.

I think perhaps a mod can confirm from the IP address as to which country this plee is coming from ... ? I don't doubt that he has got a friend worried enough to ask for money off a message board... But I have a few questions, did he not buy a return ticket in the first place? Did he simply just miss it? and if he had no plan in returning what money was he going to live on? I think I read somewhere that hes lost his bank card, can't the embassay get money from his Oz bank? Or something? I don't understand. I'm sorry. Hope you're ok though.

Fr McGreer - no, haven't received email. Can you please try again -

No Jenny - can assure you, this most definitely wasn't written by Craig.

Just spotted the other two posts, sorry .. didn't even see the new page in the thread

I'm located in Australia, to be precise I live about 10 min up the road from where Craig lives... well, or used to anyway.
I realise how dodgy this looks, and how the string of Craig's misadventures and all the stuff prior to his departure may leave some people shake their heads.
I'm happy to disclose all information and answer your questions as best I can to anyone who emails me privately. Please understand that I don't wish to publicly 'out' or embarrass Craig. This was not my intention in the first place and I hope this thread won't take it there either.

"Elke" truly is my name, and from my email username you may be able to piece my full name together. If he mentioned any Irish language stuff to you on here, that'd be something we do/ did together. It's easy enough to Google that up and you'll find me.

I think I've said enough on here. This is hard enough as it is, so please understand that I don't have the energy to return to this forum much longer.

You guys have my email addy if anyone has any ideas how to help, for those who wish to help.

Thank you everyone
ELKE

Elke - I'll get back to you later, I've got a ton of work to do. I'm sure you wouldn't mind making or taking a phone call to put some misgivings those doubters have to rest? Don't post numbers on this board but in an email should you agree. There are also those that are close to where Craig was recently staying. Someone expressed the willingness to meet up with him and see what he requires.

"Elke", if you want people on this forum to be able to communicate with you, why don't you simply register as a member? It costs nothing, and it won't take much of your time. And it may enable you to answer the many questions that are still unanswered privately rather than in a publicly viewable forum.

Sorry to see that Craig has gotten himself into bother in Ireland. I thought he had been given a return airfare? Craigsfriend, you mentioned the consulate have refused help. The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade will often provide help to Australians who find themselves in trouble overseas, including financial help, or for Welfare and Whereabouts, and also if you feel there is a mental issue it is listed under disabilties assistance. I suppose it depends on what your definition of Craig's trouble is. Anyway, rather than search an internet forum Craig has talked about and tell strangers private personal things about your friend, Craig and then ask them for money, perhaps you should be asking the friends, family, acquaintences that are all worried about him to all chip in to fund his trip home. Good luck with it all.

Not a Scam

Post Wed Jan 13, 2010 11:14 pm

I find this interesting under the circumstances, quoted from the Saga thread to OIrish:

CraigBatty wrote:Remember when I gave a flying rat's arse because I thought you might stop WHINING and start WORKING?

CraigBatty wrote:I just CANNOT take the fawning over the shite you pour out in every fucking internet group and forum I see you in.

CraigBatty wrote:But do I come on EVERY FUCKING FORUM on Earth whinging asking for handouts? NO!

No?

And this to me:

CraigBatty wrote:Let alone my self-indulgent loss of self-control over an issued which has been slowly niggling it's way up into full blown concern and then despairing fury at the thought of WELL-MEANING people being abusively mislead and conned, but mainly for my personal and abusive responses to you.

I will stake my bottom dollar (HAH! ) on this being an elaborate self-indulgent career-launching self-promotional activity/scam on a certain person's part. IF, and WHEN I am conclusively proven wrong, I will apologise for MY well-meaning misperception of reality and make amends to the wronged and cruelly insulted party in any way I can, as I ALWAYS do in the wake of my 'blunders'.

Very interesting.

HARRY THE HAGGLER: Stones, sir?

MANDY: Naah. They've got a lot there, lying around on the ground.

HARRY THE HAGGLER: Oh, not like these, sir. Look at this. Feel the quality of that. That's craftsmanship, sir.

MANDY: Hmmm. Aah, all right. We'll have, uh, two with points and... a big flat one.

BRIAN: Could I have a flat one, Mum?

MANDY: Shh!

BRIAN: Sorry. Dad.

MANDY: Ehh, all right. Two points, ah, two flats, and a packet of gravel.

HARRY THE HAGGLER: Packet of gravel. Should be a good one this afternoon.

MANDY: Hehh?

HARRY THE HAGGLER: Local boy.

MANDY: Oh, good.

HARRY THE HAGGLER: Enjoy yourselves.

Looks like I repeated questions Walshy already asked. I did actually read everyone's posts before posting but posted my questions mainly on Elke's message. I have to still wonder why some of these questions haven't been answered and why help was sought from an internet forum rather than the proper authorities or people close to him, and people who actually know exactly what's happening in his life - not just a vague indication of Craig being in trouble ending with a financial request. Unless Fr. McGreer has been snowed in, he's close enough and could be a contact on behalf of us?

Was waiting for another reply elsewhere before I posted. Most of these questions have been answered offline. . Elke has asked me to appologise for the request. She claims to be at her wits end to get Craig back home. Since recent activity on his FB page, mostly I'm waiting on Craig himself to contact me.

Lets see what happens. As NJ Rich said, lots has been resolved off line.

Snow's gone though :)
