Mahones with The Popes (Canadian Tour)

The Mahones with special guests The Popes (Shane's Popes), will be performing in my city on August 14. Should be interesting.
Though I'd seen the Mahones about 10 times in the 90s, I haven't seen them since they performed with Phil Chevron and Terry Woods here in September of 2003.

Hey, at least there's a pile of E. Coast gigs, surely you can make it to the mainland. They're not even making it West of Ontario, boo hoo!

Just saw a handbill for their show in Winnipeg on October 6. Checked their site. Besides Saskatchewan and Alberta, they're playing Victoria, Vancouver, and Kamloops. Surely one of those will work?

Ah, http://www.myspace.com/themahones tells me they're going to be in Vancouver Oct 17 (venue TBA). Sweet. I shoulda thunk maybe to check the Mahones page for more details. I once skipped a Mahones gig, and it turned out Misters Chevron & Woods were along for the ride. I pledged to myself to not let that happen again...

So the Vancouver show is @ Pub 340, on Cambie @ Hastings, right across the street from my work! Saw a poster, seems to hint at Shane being along, which is a laugh, as the Pogues will be in L.A. that night.

Just got home from the Winnipeg show - without the Mahones due to a broken down van somewhere in northwest Ontario. The Popes played to a crowd of maybe 20, but played as if it was a multitude. Great night.

I saw The Popes with Mark a while ago which heavly hinted that Shane would be there ... which was rubbish of course the crowd started to shout "shane, shane, shane" and Maddog came on and said he wasn't able to make it due to illness. He's a proper wanker that guy, Maddog. Sorry, but he is

This tour is also hitting Victoria on Friday the 16th, with The McGillicuddys opening. I'd give Van a miss if I were you Low D This is at the V-Lounge and is a very early show: doors at 7:00 and bands 8:00. Apparently the place turns into a disco at 12:30, or some such rubbish. Not a bad week, seeing the Pogues in Seattle and Portland, and playing with the Popes and Mahones. I think Finny owes me a pint or two.

Wish I could! But working friday till 6 doesn't leave me a lot of time to make it to Vic. And those friday afternoon/evening ferrys always leave me feeling ... loopy. Great crowd on those friday ferrys, the party starts early.
