An update of the Springsteen ticket situation...this afternoon the aforementioned final, final tickets for the last concert ever at Giants Stadium went on sale. Tickets were obtained as my boys went and bought them. It turns out my brother ran into the same major issue at a "Ticketbastards" (my new favorite name for them, thank you whoever came up with that one) retail store machine where he was second on line and told the show was Sold OUT! This is 5 minutes after going on sale! After prompting the machine worker to try a few different ways he ended up maxing out his plastic and obtaining more then the maximum allowed tickets. They really are screwed up.

Great time at the show last night, I've got no voice today and the Advil has finally kicked in....Bruce was in top form.
Opened the show with a song he wrote about the demo of Giants Stadium. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nVyOlazg6qk
We we're about 12 people deep on the left side of center stage. Met some folks from the UK down in the pit. A very nice family from Derry who were huge fans, on their second trip to the States to see Bruce. We had a blast. Set list for the night was......

Wrecking Ball
Seeds
Johnny 99
Atlantic City
Outlaw Pete
Hungry Heart
Working on a Dream
Thunder Road
Tenth Avenue Freeze-out
Night
Backstreets
Born to Run
She's the One
Meeting Across the River
Jungleland
Waitin' on a Sunny Day
The Promised Land
Into the Fire
Lonesome Day
The Rising
Badlands
No Surrender
* * *
Raise Your Hand
E Street Shuffle
Growin' Up
American Land
Dancing in the Dark
Hard Times
Rosalita

Good set... so that was the Born to Run set, was it? I understand he's doing a Darkness... show too, isn't he? I would just love to see that.

Yes was a very good opening night set. The "Darkness on the edge of town" set is scheduled for tonight and then the next night will be a "Born in the USA" set. Then the three started over again for the next three shows. I'm of course in for the coveted last night "B / USA" set. Right now the market is flooded with tickets. One auction website has tickets selling at 1/2 - 3/4 of ticket face value. So possibly at those prices we might squeeze in to see all three sets as "Darkness...." is one of my fav discs by Bruce.

Lucky man. I am trying and failing not to be a tad jealous. And Darkness would be up there in my top three (with Born to Run and Nebraska).

FH - Not Darkness but a pretty cool clip of Bruce from last night asking the crowd to surf him pretty damn far back to the stage....about 25 yards or better.

would have been better had the cameraman decided not to post his email address throughout the clip

Yes last night Oct,9 was the final, final concert at Giants Stadium. After battling a cold, standing for 11 + hours straight, mostly on a line because of some ridiculous bracelet handing out procedure. Close proximity was acheived for the final show. Got to take part in the crowd handling of The Boss as he crowd surfed (any women wanting to feel jealous I had him by his belt loop and his lower back) and all was for the most part right with the world. It alone was an awesome show. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n0r7Iz4Oyc4 We're about 10 people in front of that extended stage that he lands on in the vid.
Now had one believed the dirty, lying stadium crew working the parking lot, and security that spread rumours throughout the day you would have heard at one time or another.....that Bruce was going to play to 1am......Bon Jovi and SouthSide Johnny were going to join him......Bono was going to join him.....the rumours went on and on. I being the level headed vertran told the group I was with, don't believe anything and if by some chance anything "extra" happens you'll be able to enjoy it. If you expect extra special, super duper guest stars to flood the stage and it doesn't happen you will leave disappointed on what should be a great night.
Well I hate to admit when I'm right but Bruce and the boys gave a great show, there were no special guests, none were needed. He did his usual 3 hours and the only thing that could have made this more complete would have been a plane ticket to Seattle for tonights Pogues show! March 2010 is a long fuckin' way away!

Set list for the final, final GS night...
Wrecking Ball (with Curt Ramm)
Badlands
Spirit in the Night
Outlaw Pete
Hungry Heart
Working on a Dream
Born in the U.S.A.
Cover Me
Darlington County
Working on the Highway
Downbound Train
I'm on Fire
No Surrender
Bobby Jean
I'm Goin' Down
Glory Days
Dancing in the Dark
My Hometown
Tougher Than the Rest
The Promised Land
Last to Die (with Curt Ramm)
Long Walk Home
The Rising
Born to Run (with Jay Weinberg)
* * *
Raise Your Hand
The Last Time
Waitin' on a Sunny Day
Seven Nights to Rock
Kitty's Back (with Curt Ramm)
American Land
Jersey Girl

Maybe you'll enjoy this, to further make me a true Jerseyan, I've procured a pair of tickets the very first concert ever in the "New" Giants Stadium featuring non other then Bonjovi for the opening shows.

I'm big on this history thing as you might be able to tell.

Good for you Man. I saw him last year in Dublin and it was awsome. I only have his greatest hits album. What song was referenced in the Hitler skit when he said about the "motorcycle and the haircut"?

By the way, the film that the clip is taken from is called "Downfall" and is incredibly powerful, a must see.

Indeed yes. Last time I saw that clip comedically subtitled it was all to do with English folk bands and festivals. It was just about as hilarious as the Brooooceee one, although I'd guess you had to know the bands concerned to appreciate it. It works on so many levels.

Oh, and I'd guess the reference you mentioned is probably meant to be to "My Hometown". But it could be a more generic Bruce song reference thing.

Yes i'm pretty sure that would be My Hometown. I'm sure he played "This American Land" in Dublin? Written during the Seger sessions it's kind of Bruce's take on Thousands are Sailing, no comparison, but it's a good little diddy. I will look for "Downfall". I was assuming the clip might be from The Valkyrie which I didn't care to watch Tom Cruise give me a history lesson.

NJR, do you share the feeling that Bruce's "American Land" sounds just a little like "Sally MacLennane"?

Thinking about it, I'm not absolutely sure that the "dad, haircut and motorcycle" reference is to an actual song. I think Brooce tells a story about an incident involving his dad having his [i.e. Bruce's] hair cut when he was a teen in his intro to "The River" on one of his live albums. If that is the reference, I'm suitably impressed by the obsessive knowledge of the clip makers...
