Hmm. That's damned tempting.
“I know all those people that were in the film [...] But that’s when they were young and strong and full of life, you know?”

I have a bootleg from his Hamburg show in January 2004 which he opened with a beautiful ballad-like version of "If I should fall". I´m going to see Mr Earle on February 7th in Hamburg and I really hope he´ll play it again.

I think i've said this before, but this is the best cover i've ever heard, changing the arrangement was the way to go. Other covers may be ok but... compete with The Pogues? Really?

Steve's new album is amazing, I've been a fan of Townes Van Zandt for years and who better to do it? It sold the most in it's first week of any album he's ever released, which reassures me about the record-buying public somewhat.

I liked Joe & The Mescaleros version too, having said that.

And yes, nice to see Townes finally get the recognition he deserves. I'm sure it will be a great comfort to him in the cold hard ground.

What? When did that happen? I've heard an older one, with the Latino Rockabilly War, but not with the Mescaleros. Hmm, time to comb the bootlegs again...

Oh very nice. Though i gather from what Steve has been saying in interviews that Townes really wouldn't care. Actually, his songs have done much "better" (ie: top ten country charts) in the past with big stars singing them. The difference is this album is actually good.

Oh, perhaps I meant the earlier Latino Rockabilly one.

I think you may have, I dug out an old bootleg of a Latino Rockabilly War gig at Coasters in Edinburgh the other day as jumped straight to IISF before playing the entire gig.
I saw them play in Bristol, I hadn't planned too but I was working at the time in the building that shared the upramp to the backstage area of Bristol Studios at the time, having a cigarette and watching a tour bus try to reverse up the slope. I signalled the driver back and once he'd got clear and up the ramp, a certain Mr Strummer came down, thanked me and got me guested. :D
I wish I'd done biology for an urge within me wanted to do it then
