Jools Holland

Post Sat May 02, 2009 9:10 am

I know that Jools Holland is something of weasely ,patronising turd. But if he was chained and handcuffed to a speaker[preferably the one in the House of Lords!]then we would not have to put up with the[unlikely]spectacle of DUTCH playing a Trad.Irish tune,boogie-woogie style{?],then there would be no reason why THE POGUES could not perform on LATER....but there again why should they?I am surprised why no one has asked why no one from the band has been approached to appear on Never Mind The Buzzcocks,or even Question Time.Oh well,i shall have to make do and treasure those appearances on TOTP and CD.UK!

To be honest I do find a lot of these European "Irish" bands pretty awful and I don't know why they can't just play their own folk music. Obviously the great thing about music is that it transcends several boundaries but a lot of it is embarrassing.

You should hear our folk music.. Then you would be embarrassed. If you want I could tell you about the 'paling sounds'?

Have you ever heard a song called 'Summer in Siam' by a band called the Pogues?

It looks like one or two of you out there are missing the point, when i said DUTCH i was referring to JULES HOLLAND[DUTCH-HOLLAND get it?] i used to work with someone whose surname was HOLLAND,she was often referred to as DUTCH,just like the Alec Guinness character in THE LAVENDER HILL MOB.If any one watches LATER....then they would know that JOOLS HOLLAND often plays keyboards with some of his guests which i find pretty annoying! As for DUTCH roots or folk music ,there used to be some great bands on the Dutch folk or folk-rock scene in the 70s-80s, they seemed to have all but disappeared,Belgium are keeping the Benelux flag flying,i do like ILSE DELANGE though she is more country-pop then folk .I suppose with all this pc nonsense flying about ,i expect nicknames and such like will be banned, just like at my local council, where anyone referring to someone as PADDY,SCOUSE OR TAFFY are liable to face disciplinery action.I was not been offensive to HOLLAND the country ,its MY favourite country for fucks sake!!!

Jools Holland sucks,LATER....I do like though. As for crap EURO folk bands, there is good and bad,as in life.I recently saw a 3 piece Belgian girl group called LAIS and they blew me away!I normally would NOT like this kind of music but this was EXTRAORDINARY it really was. This was my first ever vsit to BELGIUM,if LAIS anything to go by ,it wont be my last. However,THE POGUES still RULE! TOT ZIENS....

JULES [not Dutch]HOLLAND is a kloothommel!i agree with SPIDER.T here is a thriving music scene here in NEDERLAND,but from a roots ,folk perspective,it is not too great.Pigmeat spring to mind, zany band from FRYSIA as is YGDRASSIL who sound Welsh, just like my wife, but they are fine Dutch band, very FAIRPORT,SANDY ,TREES influenced. Also THE EX who are not folkie at all.ok greetings and good luck to THE POGUES from ZWOLLE NL.

Don't know much about Jools except he has some great talent on his show. But if it weren't for him, we never would have got a recording by the late Joe Strummer "Return of the Blues Cowboy" which i, for one, love.
