Hardrock Miners, Vancouver, Canada

Post Wed Jun 25, 2008 10:33 pm

Years ago I picked up a CD by Vancouver band The Hardrock Miners. There was a song on the album called Ruby Red which sounded to me like it was written about Shane

http://www.shanemacgowan.com/lyrics/ruby.shtml

At the time there was very very little info online about this band but I did find some small reference to them in a foreign language referring to a song dedicated to Shane, whether it be true or not.

Finally some stuff is showing up on youtube and elsewhere including Wikipedia.

The current wikipedia entry talks of band members' side projects including a Pogues cover band Shane's Teeth whom I'm sure I've vaguely heard of before.

Worth mentioning that the Hardrock Miners host a sing-along at Vancouver's Railway Club on the first Monday of every month. There's many copies of a book with lyrics for songs they've chosen (a fine selection that i suspect most people on this list would be happy with), and participants bring guitars, mandolins, accordions, and mostly their voices and a great time is had by all. I havn't been in ages, anyone in Vancouver intersted in maybe going to the August one? (i'm away for July).

There's a video clip of said singalong at cbc.ca and near the end you can hear Dirty Old Town beins sung.

I've only ever bought their fisrt album on Hypnotic Records - Rock'n Roll Welfare which is fantastic. But I've seen references to another but I forget the name.

There really is very little written about them anywhere.
