Johnny Cash has always been a fave in our house. Sadly my Father-in-law died the day after Johnny Cash, F-i-L's last words that he said before heading off to bed was, "Bloody Hell Johnny Cash has died, he was a year older than me, I'd better look after myself". I got left the JC collection.
I wish I'd done biology for an urge within me wanted to do it then

Wow, talk about famous last words. It is sad but a really great story. Sorry for the past loss and thanks for sharing.

Joe Strummer's, 'Redemption Song EP' has himself and Johnny Cash sharing the singing on Bob Marley's tune - it's got to be one of the saddest songs I own.

I love this version of the song! one of my all time favorites. there's asong cash did with fionna apple called "father and son." i believe it's the very next track after "redemption song" on "unearthed - disc 3." a cover of then cat stevens'. i was so moved by it that i even remember where i was and what i was doing the first time i heard it. :)

http://daveraleigh1.vox.com/library/posts/tags/covers/ is where I found the tune.
I read somewhere that Strummer wrote "Long Shadow" for Johnny Cash but heturned it down on account of thinking that Strummer was a 'bit mad'. I shall try and find the Unearthed stuff.
