The Grace of a Man

Post Fri Jan 25, 2008 10:38 pm

Christy Moore is one of the best musicians of ALL time. He has the grace of a man that many spend a lifetime in wanting, yet more humility than many saints and his music is from somewhere we're yet to define.

I read somewhere (on this site I think) that Shane and Christy have fallen out. Is that true and what happened?

I wonder if they will ever send Christy back to hell.
And I don't want no grave
Just throw my ashes in the field
And hope there's some soul left to save

4711ers Raft Sinks

Post Sun May 25, 2008 11:44 pm

Hey!! Any Christy fans know what the heck happened to the 4711ers forum????

I got a weird email saying the janitor had shut the forum down. Some argument caused it...

Hope it's not permanent...

Bob Seger did a Rock and Roll Never Forgets, but I wasn't aware of Christy having a similar title, though I do have a vague memory of those words in a song.

Irish band "Bagatelle" had a hit in 1978 with a song called "Summer in Dublin". The singer, Liam Reilly sounds more like Paul Brady than Christy

Take me away from this city,
And leave me to where I can be on my own.
I wanted to see you and now that I have
I just wanna be left alone.
I'll always remember your kind words,
And I'll still remember your name,
But I've seen you changing and turning,
And I know that things just won't be the same.

Ref.
I remember that summer in Dublin,
And the Liffey as it stank like hell,
And young people walking down Grafton Street,
Everyone looking so well.
I was singing a song I heard somewhere,
Called "Rock'n'Roll Never Forget",
When my humming was smothered by the 46A,
And the scream of a low flying jet.
So, I jumped on a bus to Dun Laoghaire,
Stopping off to pick up my guitar,
When a drunk on a bus told me how to get rich,
I was glad we weren't going too far.

2.

So, I'm leaving on Wednesday morning,
Trying to find a place where I can hear,
The wind and the birds and the sea and rocks,
And where open roads are always out there.
And if sometimes I tire of the quiet,
And I wanna get back up that hill,
I just get on the road and I stick out my thumb,
‘Cause I know for sure you'll be there still.

I've just come back from his gig in Holland. He played Fairytale and played Brown Eyes when I shouted it. He said he had never done two macgowan songs before and I even had to introduce the song for him to everybody.

Great night indeed!
