Token Celtic Drinking Song

Is this not a Pogues song?They guy singing did sound different, but I always thought it was. Why is it so confused with the Pogues? Also where can I get this song, I kind of like it. I tried the dudes site but it would not work.

No, this is not the Pogues. Never has been. It is a band called Jimmy George.

I suspect it's often confused with the Pogues because a lot of people have little experience with this style of music and assume that anything that sounds vaguely like it "must be by that band I heard that time that sounded like this - the one with the guy with the bad teeth."

Yea, I thought it was when I first started listening to em, but now I know better. Still I like it and I wish I could get it again.

It's a decent song. I've enjoyed it the few times I've listened to it.

I have no idea where it might be officially available (all the links to it from official sites point to mp3.com which is currently not functional). It is widely available on many P2P networks.

if you have kazaa, search for the pogues and you should see it on there. that's why i thought it was a pogues song for a while. some douche bag labeled it wrong. just like the vag-juice that had me obsessed with johnny rivers when i really should have been obsessed with the bobby fuller four.

Jimmy George (band)

Jimmy George was a Canadian folk rock band, who blended Celtic folk with rock influences in a manner similar to Spirit of the West and Great Big Sea.

Formed in Ottawa in 1991, the band at the end of their run at the Duke of Somerset pub consisted of vocalist and guitarist J. Todd, electric guitarist Steve Donnelly, bassist George Jennings, Joel Carlson on mandolin, Jeff Kerr on banjo, Mickey Vallee on accordion, and Tom Werbowetski on drums.

Other members at various times included Eric Altman (drums, played drums live and on both Jimmy George CD's), Christine Chesser (fiddle, vocals - Chickpea), Michael "Spike" Lawson (electric guitar), Michael Eady (fiddle), Colin Burns (bass guitar - Rude Boy), Steve Barry (vocals, acoustic guitar), Rob Porter (drums - Polaris!, The Whirleygigs), Duncan Gillis (acoustic guitar, penny whistle, vocals).

Several of the band's songs have been performed by other bands, most notably Breakfast With St. Swithin which appeared on Vancouver band The Town Pants' CD. Other bands have performed the band's Token Celtic Drinking Song despite the fact that the song has no official lyrics and many of the words are improvised and undiscernable even on the recorded version.

Personally I´ve neither heard the song nor the band. Were they good ?

P2P programs are guilty of several misnomers. I have a song called "The Scottsman" that's apparently by the Pogues, but it's not...

NO THIS IS NOT A POGUES SONG! :-)

Contrary to popular belief (and thanks to mislabelled files distributed via Napster etc. back in the day), it is by Ottawa, Canada band Jimmy George. It was on their 1995 release “Hotel Motel” which was released on Cargo Records. The band still plays occasional shows.

You can download this song from bandcamp but the money only goes to the talentless bass player who was kicked out of every other band he played in,and has been ripping off other members of the band for years without any compensation or remorse...enjoy your download
