For the record:

In December 2008, the highest chart position for "FoNY" was #12, in Christmas Week itself. This week it is down to #19 and I see it now also registers at 43 weeks in the charts in total.

Mix tape
Fairytale of New York-The Pogues and Kirsty MacColl-
It remains the biggest travesty in music that this song has never made it to Christmas number one, when just so many people hold it in the highest regard as one of the best ever written. It’s full of not only the Christmas but the buoyant Irish spirit, a match made in heaven with the background story of a couple tragically falling out after meeting on Christmas. For such a sad song subject, this remains an absolutely vibrant Christmas anthem that every right thinking person must blare out over the holiday season.

I Believe In Father Christmas-Greg Lake-
A brilliantly mystical and enchanting Christmas hit which starts of nice and simply and turns into a bold and epic Christmas anthem with a massive orchestral backing. Greg Lake’s singing is the key element of greatness as it is haunting and enthralling to all who hear it.

Feed The World-Live Aid-
Perhaps the most famous Christmas song of all time. It took Bob Geldoff of The Boomtown Rats and a whole host of fellow musicians such as Wham and Bono from U2 and a relatively simple tune to revolutionise the pop charts forever. The strong message from the song got the nation to take action and give more to charity, which would reach its peak with the groundbreaking Live Aid concert in Wembley. No other song in history has achieved the power of Live Aid.

Silver Bells-Twisted Sister-
A brilliantly rocked up version of a carol classic. Who better to do it than the larger than life glam rockers Twisted Sister who bring an enormous sense of mirth and bounce to kick start the Christmas spirit in you.

Merry Christmas Darling-The Carpenters-
The hauntingly brilliant vocals of the late Karen Carpenter give this Christmas track a comforting sense of being snuggled up inside with your true love as the snow falls outside. The song is practically glowing with Christmas spirit.

I Wish It Could Be Christmas Everyday-Wizard-
Naturally the idea of Christmas every day was all our childhood dream and Wizard expertly capture the madness and joy we all have of cramming too much chocolate in our mouths and tearing open presents on Christmas Day. A sugar and sparkle coated nostalgia trip that will never grow old.

All I Want For Christmas Is You-My Chemical Romance-
Sure Mariah Carey may have sung it originally, but it would take five men from New Jersey to bring out the track’s true potential. A roaring, head-banging anthem for the alternative crowd, full of punk energy and fun. Turning this on during Christmas day will awaken that dormant sweet-swallowing, coke-chugging and present wanting monster inside all of us! Plus on another level, the song is perfect for the modern couple to have their own dance to while Grandparents cover their ears at the volume.

Christmas Is All Around-Billy Mack (Bill Nighy)-
From the hit Christmas film, Love Actually, Bill Nighy performs his song from the movie under the guise of aged rocker Billy Mack. It’s a Christmas-ized cover of The Troggs’ “Love Is All Around” and Bill Nighy does it brilliantly, adding a silky sway to the cover.
Rockin Around The Christmas Tree-Brenda Lee- A brilliantly simple and vibrant Christmas hit that is simply perfect for getting you and your whole family getting slightly tips and having a good old Christmas boogie to a song full of the holiday spirit.

Proper Crimbo-Avid Merrion-
Sure, a mad ginger haired man in rubber masks may not appear so funny anymore, but this song should be commended for attempting to buck the trend of recent years to have Christmas themed number 1. It’s bright and bouncy and a great sing-a-long

hmmm??........................ theres that word "travesty" once again??...............................
