It may be of interest to some of you with technical leanings that there is an article about the recording of Fairytale of New York in the December issue of Sound On Sound magazine ... a recording/music technology magazine. It tells the story of the production of the track from the studio's point of view.
Just thought I'd point this out in case it might be a new slant!
