"Rum, Sodomy & the Lash" book

Post Thu Aug 28, 2008 5:53 pm

.......but have not done shopping.

Several of us talked to, or exchanged emails with this guy, so it might be OK.

---===---

Janitorial edit from DzM:

Excerpts from the book have generously been supplied by the author, Jeffrey, and his publisher, Continuum. They can be read at:

http://www.pogues.com/Print/rum_book-excerpt.html

Jeff also asked that this message be passed along:

Hello Medusans.

My name is Jeff Roesgen. I've written a book about Rum, Sodomy, and the Lash for Continuum Publishing's 33 1/3 Series. For those unfamiliar, 33 1/3 publishes episodes of short books, each one dedicated to celebrating and discussing a particular, classic album. It's been my fortune to contribute to the series by writing about my and perhaps your favorite album, Rum, Sodomy, and the Lash. My book is a combination of two things. The first, comprising roughly 1/3 of the book's content, includes accounts and analyses of the creation the album. This portion was informed by Pogues Andrew, James, Jem, Philip, and Spider as well as DzM, Jon Tout, Carol Clerk, and several literary and media sources. The second portion of the book is a sea-faring, fictional narrative that features the Pogues, as well as many of the characters and images presented in the songs of Rum, Sodomy, and the Lash. The framework of this story, which incorporates the tragic voyage of the Medusa to the Port of St. Louis in 1816, is about the plight of the underdog, the commoner and attempts to capture the spirit and mystery of this unique and enduring album. Presented here are two excerpts; each one representing these two contrasting, though intertwined aspects of the book. I hope that you enjoy them.

Kind Regards,
Jeff Roesgen

Great news Philip, look forward to this one. When I saw the headline I thought it was about a live DVD but I guess we´ll have look for the headline "Now that you've bought the box set and the book....."
Hope to see you on stage for the tour

Don't forget to first bonk on an Amazon link (for your region, naturally) from this page:

http://www.pogues.com/shopping.html

THEN order the book.

Thanks!
