The Simpsons, Sort Of

Post Wed Feb 20, 2008 5:41 pm

The 2008 Valentine's Simpsons featured three "Love" stories told by the family (one story for each act). The final story was a telling of Sid & Nancy featuring Lisa and Nelson in the lead roles. Rather than heroin they were hooked on chocolate. Bart was Johnny Rotten.

So how is this related to The Pogues? Only very loosely. The story told is based pretty heavily on the film Sid & Nancy, which The Pogues provided quite a bit of music for. The telling of the story featured covers/rewrites of many of the tracks from the soundtrack, including what I'd swear is a rewrite of "Junk Theme" by Jem Finer.

You are 100% accurate DZM, I watched that episode (The Simpsons is my all-time favorite TV show, even though in recent years the quality has started to decline.) Yes, the song they played at the end was a rewrite of "Junk Them," complete with Homer dumping the trash, while Lisa (Nancy) and Nelson (Sid) have the dramatic kissing montage by the dumpster. I'm still wondering if John Lydon and the rest of The Sex Pistols happened to catch this segment.

I also saw this, but I have to disagree if the song you mean, DzM, is the same song that pogues24 references - that sounded to me like a re-tooling of "Taxi to Heaven" by Pray for Rain.

You be the judge.

Damn! You're absolutely right! How did I get that wrong? I love both those songs.

I wasn't a big fan of that episode, thought the Homer subplot with the loaner car was totally uneccessary. I've been a Simpson fan since 1989, season 1-10 in my opinion was flawless (with a couple of notable exceptions,) however I think it is high time Matt Groening stop making new Simpson episodes. The series has been rapidly declining since season 11.
