Mayor joins McGowan for assault on charts
22 Nov 2007
The Kingdom

Full URL
THE Mayor of Kerry could be top of the pops for Christmas.

Cllr Michael Healy-Rae has teamed up with music superstar Shane McGowan for a novel recording that could clinch the coveted festive season number one slot.

The mayor, the former Pogues front man and the other stars of the Celebrities Go Wild reality TV series have joined forces to release the song with all proceeds going to People in Need.

They will release an unique version of the Pogues hit “Down in the Ground Where the Dead Men Go” later this week and are preparing for a battle of the pops with the reformed Spice Girls and 2006 X-factor winner Leona Lewis as they go in search of the number one for Christmas.

“It should be released to the radio stations and online by the end of the week,” Cllr Healy-Rae told The Kingdom.

“It seems to have come together very well and I’ve got real hope for it - it’s real catchy,” he added.

Another Kerry man, TG4 presenter Daithi ” Sé, also features as well as journalist Victoria Mary Clarke, former Irish Euro-vision star Mickey Joe Harte, actor Alan O’Neill, model Katy French and swimmer Michelle de Bruin. Singer Tony Kenny missed out on the recording because of commitments in the US.

Katie French and Michael Healy Rea were on RTE last night talking about the song. They showed a clip of the "celebs" recording it. It's actually not too bad!!!!!

The version they had was a very rough demo and Shane was in there singing with the rest of them. The music sounded good too.

I'll reserve judgement till i've heard the finished mix.

One of Ireland's top models is fighting for her life after collapsing at a house party at the weekend.

Katy French's father today confirmed that his daughter's life is hanging in the balance.

Navan hospital where Katy remained in intensive care today said that her condition was serious and remains unchanged but her father disclosed that she is in a critical condition and far worse than feared.

Mr French said he did not wish to comment any further on his daughter's condition.

The 24-year-old was reportedly rushed to hospital in Navan in the early hours of Sunday morning after collapsing at a friend's house in Ashbourne.

She is reportedly on a life-support machine and showed no sign of improvement yesterday.

Restaurant owner Sweeney joined Katy's relatives yesterday evening, shortly before 7 oclock, putting aside memories of the couples acrimonious break-up last year.

The upset businessman tried to avoid the media interest when he arrived at the hospital. He left and arrived back a short time later accompanied by gardai. After almost two hours with the family, he left quietly.

Earlier in the day former Miss Ireland Andrea Roche had arrived at the hospital to sit with the family.

Two hours later she left, looking visibly upset, with tears welling up in her eyes.

Fellow Celebrities Go Wild star Daithi OSe revealed that all her friends were holding on for news.

"We are all kind of waiting to see what will happen. We all kept in contact after the show and I know she said that she had been tired lately because she had been working a lot."

Former Miss World Rosanna Davidson added: "I'm very fond of the girl and we get on very well.

"I hope she makes a recovery. She's a young woman and I wouldnt want anything to happen to her."

Katys modelling agency said: "Our thoughts are with Katy and her family at this time."

At the weekend Katy hosted a lavish birthday party for celebrities, friends and media personalities at the Krystle nightspot.

The blonde beauty told onlookers: "I'm having a blast."

Less than a year ago, Katy hit the headlines as she announced her engagement to wealthy restaurateur Marcus Sweeney was over.

The couple famously broke up during a row at his Dublin eatery while she was in the midst of a lingerie modelling shoot for the Sunday Independent magazine.

The model has been snapped in the arms of "good friend" Calum Best, son of late Northern Ireland and Manchester United football icon George.

Controversy was never far away from the attractive blonde's smiling face.

She admitted to supporting abortion, which she claimed was the reason for her being the first person to be voted off RTE's survival reality show.

She was also in the spotlight recently for telling 'Hot Press' magazine that she would never touch hard drugs, but admitted to a tabloid newspaper several days later that she started taking cocaine at 19 years old, " and soon realised that it was very much part of the Dublin social scene.

She added: "Cocaine is everywhere but I just wanted to say that it's not cool, it's not attractive.

"I am speaking out because I feel we need to be more honest with ourselves, stop living in denial and take responsibility."

Never heard of her, but best wishes for a recovery. 24 is no age at all

EDIT: She passed away today.

Now that Katy is brown bread, it could easily get to number one. They'll probably change the designated charity though.

For any of you who don't know, Katy French was an Irish model. She died last night at the age of 24 after a short, as yet undisclosed illness.

Really sad that she died so young, She was beautiful, seems to have been linked to brain damage brought on by Cocaine abuse.

From Katy's wikipedia page:

Death
Katy French died on the evening of 6th December 2007 in Our Lady's Hospital Navan in Co. Meath,[7] [8], having collapsed at a friend's house in Ashbourne, County Meath in the early hours of Sunday 2nd December. The post mortem revealed that she had taken cocaine before her collapse, and suffered brain damage[9]. An Garda Síochána have launched an inquiry into her death.[10] Her family have asked that donations be made to the Irish charity GOAL, which she once worked for in Calcutta, India, instead of flowers.[11]

An argument to legalise Cocaine I'd say, at least if it was legal you would get dealers mixing it with dodgy shit in the first place.
