I took the advice of the croupier and asked for another card. And won $20, in less than a minute. At this rate, I calculated, I could be a millionaire by the time we left town.
I could pretend that I went on with my roll and that I am now rich, but it wouldn't be true. The fact is that I walked away with my $20, and decided not to spoil the evening by losing it again.
Most of the Pogues were equally restrained. All except Shane - who won a substantial sum, only to lose it again. Luckily, one of our party also got lucky and walked away with a few hundred dollars more than he walked in with.
Wonder who is that lucky gambler...
