If there's one thing wrong with Van's inclusion it's the fact that it's not number one. Of course, these lists are all ridiculous but I feel the need to say that Astral Weeks is a unique album that is as transcendent as music could ever be. I can't put my finger on it but there is something about this piece of music that makes it stand out from everything I've ever heard.

The top 10:
1) The Beatles- Revolver
3) Bob Dylan- Blood On The Tracks
4) Pink Floyd- Dark Side Of The Moon
5) The Beatles- Sgt Pepper's...
7) Van Morrison- Astral Weeks
9) The Beatles- The White Album
10) The Beach Boys- Pet Sounds

Don't think they'd all rank in my top 10 albums, but some of them would be well up there. Can't understand how Blood On The Tracks is a shit album because In Utero was a better album than Nevermind.

There's plenty of bands I wouldn't go to my backyard to see but I wouldn't call them shit because I'm not into their music.

These top ten lists are a load of shite anyway. They're always the same. What Irish musicians were involved?

The very long list included: Christy Moore, Andrea Corr, Barry Devlin (Horslips), Finbar Furey, Damien Dempsey, David Kitt, Katie Melua, Steve Averill (Radiators), loads of other well known people, loads of people I've never heard of.
These lists are always hit and miss for whoever the reader is, but personally I though there were quite a lot of good albums lower down, such as:
11) The Joshua Tree- U2,
13) Never Mind The Bollocks- Sex Pistols,
15) London Calling- The Clash,
21) Achtung Baby- U2,
39) Music In Mouth- BellX1,
46) Debut- Bjork,
51) Closer- Joy Division,
67) Rum, Sodomy and the Lash- The Pogues,
74) The Man In Black- Johnny Cash,
85) Sticky Fingers- The Rolling Stones,
90) Roxy Music- Roxy Music,
97) Planxty- Planxty.

There were actually a few choices that I haven't seen in these sort of lists before, such as: Tom Waits, Miles Davis, Marvin Gaye, The Pixies, Antony And The Johnsons, Husker Du, Nina Simone and The Kinks.
But no Frank Sinatra.

Top 2 on the bill were The Wonder Stuff and The Pogues, whose fans couldn't wait for Van to finish. Loads of people were pointing at him on stage and singing "you fat bastard, you fat bastard". I don't think he was impressed, though he looks a bit miserable anyway, so it was hard to tell.
To be fair, he has done some good music in the past- Brown Eyed Girl, Moondance, Sweet Thing...

I love Van Morrison's music, particularly the 3 above and especially Moondance, so I was delighted to get the chance to see him a couple of yeas ago.

His support act was old Lonnie Donnegan. I wanted to stay in the pub and just go in to see Van but my accomplice insisted that we support the support act.

Well....Lonnie Donnegan was absolutely brilliant....so full of energy and enthusiasm and great music....and he was 72 at the time...one of the best gigs I've seen. Then Van came on and I was so disappointed...he left me totally unmoved ...just stood with his back to the crowd most of the time.

Sadly, Lonnie Donnegan died just a weeks after I saw him

Donegan asked The Pogues to record with him not long before that, but it was not something we were able to cram in at the time. He was hugely influential in British music, principally in inspiring people to form their own basic bands, much as Punk was later cheap synths were later still.

Just to clarify- they are some of the ones that voted, not the winners.

i never actually noticed blood on the tracks, it is a great album though not, in my opinion, as good as highway 61 revisited or blonde on blonde

Bring It All Back Home, thats a fucking great album by the man himself.

Also,Jimi Hendrix's Electric Ladyland should have been in the top 5.
VH1 did the top 100 albums and U2 won it with The Joshua Tree

I live in hope that one day i'll see one of these "best albums ever" lists that does not contain OK Computer by Radiohead, but DOES feature "Dont Stand Me Down" by Dexys Midnight Runners". Will it ever happen? I doubt it. Particularly after the "mans dress" incident of 1999.

Yes. And SF Sorrow by the Pretty Things. And, for that matter, Revolver, Rubber Soul and Abbey Road.

They are great albums- but I still don't think Sgt Pepper's is overhyped.

sgt peppers has got to be one of the most talked about albums ever. cant comment on its being overhyped as ive never listened to it, though the song itself is alright

I'm one of those that think that St. Pepper's sounds rather dated today. I would love to see Rubber Soul higher in those lists, there is some wonderful timeless pop music on this album.
