I remember going to the Feile festival in Tipperary years ago and he was 3rd on the bill- he was boring live. Top 2 on the bill were The Wonder Stuff and The Pogues, whose fans couldn't wait for Van to finish. Loads of people were pointing at him on stage and singing "you fat bastard, you fat bastard". I don't think he was impressed, though he looks a bit miserable anyway, so it was hard to tell.
To be fair, he has done some good music in the past- Brown Eyed Girl, Moondance, Sweet Thing...

No, no, no. You can't knock The Beatles. Sgt Pepper's is a classic, milestone album. I can't stand bloody Radiohead though. The Pogues not being in the top 10 is a gutter, especially when it was Irish musicians doing the voting.

Sorry to have to say this Niall, but that comment was puerile shit. I know you think your young tastes reign supreme regarding music, but sweeping statements like that regarding some of the, arguably, greatest and most influential albums of the past 30+ years are just plain fucking silly. And I've come to expect a bit more from you.
I do not want this to descend into a pathetic school-yard bitch-fight, but your constant banging on about the Beatles and other acts as being 'shit' etc is becoming as grating to me as a musician as, apparently, Irish Rovers use of the 'oi' thing is to you.
Can't we just agree to let each others more questionable tastes in things pass us by? Sorry for the ear-chewing, but it's been a long day.

fintan im not constantly banging on about the beatles being shit. let it be happens to be one of my all time fav songs, as for the rest, im ot their biggest fan. Also it was not them that made me comment on the quality of the albums. It was the inclusion of nevermind, which, in my opinion, is the worst of nirvanas albums, bleach and in utero are much much better. As for the irish rover thing, i was agreeing eith other people, i never brought it up. Also, everyone is entitled to thier owm opinion, on the beatles or informers or whatever

Then I will apologise to you again, Niall; for I could have sworn that elsewhere in other threads I had read, on more than one occasion, comments regarding the Beatles that I thought were a bit unreasonable in their severity, and which I have mistakenly attributed to you. I will search through the relevant threads to uncover the source of my confusion, but in the meantime, again, my apologies for any offence caused. However, I still think a blanket and offhand dismissal of all the albums on that list was premature. Still, it's not worth barneying over, is it. So, mea culpa.

The Top 100 albums were all by Frank Sinatra. Next question.

I was just checking through the 'what bands do you wish youd seen' thread, and you are quite correct, I have drastically misinterpreted your post's intention in the context of the thread. Again, my apologies. Hope we won't be resorting to loaded haddock at dawn, then?
