Nakia Review of The Pouguees.

Post Mon Mar 20, 2006 6:45 pm

I tried hard to put myself in the shoes of these reviewers, and I think I can do it as well, if not better , than them:

"Notorious toothy, caffeine-addicted Scottish frontman Steve MacGreggor blew into town with his band of musicians, the Pouguees. The night got off to a wild start with Broad Mister Shamen, or something, but I was just coming back in from giving a hand job to a VERY BIG local musician who might have tickets for me for the New Yorker annual. Anyway, the always impressive Beatle Starkey on the tin metal thing was his usual subdued self as he drew a sharp contrast to the excitable Jim Framer on the ....umm, let's see,,,dulcimer! That's it! After Al Franken who plays a cymbal, or a ryhtmn stick, got up to sing Start Counting Down the mood was set. Towering over his friends was the sitar playing Frenchman Phillippe Chevrone singing Thousand Of Something and a great job he did , also, though he might consider dressing up for the next show. Kerry Foods, who is a master on the kazoo, or something else maybe with strings sang some song about Ned Hill. He didn't bring a lot of passion to it, though. Also standing around was Daryl Bass who , remarkably plays a bass. That's the one with 6 strings right? And lest we not forget the guy who plays that piano-looking thing with an expandable file looking thingy on it, Shane Furley. Also impressive was the fact I was able to take all this in while setting up reservations on my cell phone for a very posh eating establishment that I want to be seen in."
Did the old songs taunt or cheer you, and did they still make you cry?

On-the-spot indeed, though you neglected to mention their top record "Plum, sodomy and all that jazz" and how MacSoddit balanced a whole pint of latte macchiato on his foot during "Furry tail of New Hampshire".

a couple of minor factual errors, but otherwise a good review

(the Chrysler dealing keyboard player is in fact called John Finehair, and Daryl "Teeth" Bass didn't play bass during the Nekia show but was actually playing trombone with a stick forming a tight melody section with Andrew Rawhide)

If only we could trick the fur industry into thinking that cub reporters are actually cub SEALS. Then they could help cull the slower, stupider ones.....

I'm sure the seals wouldn't mind switching spots and writing the reviews. Would be more accurate, I bet.

I hope the actual seals in Canadia are doing better as the annual seal hunt begins.
