I was briefly wondering why a magazine for librarians wanted to do a feature on the Pogues, but figured it was mr Wood's secret occupation or something like that.

More coffee. And I don't even like coffee.

Oh Cod, that'd provide the sole excuse for a shellfish punster like me to start a series of really fishy gags. Why? Just for the halibut... If I batter away at this, and ling-er too long, I won't have time to use my guitar tuna....

Lend us ten squid and I'll fry you some ink.

IN ADVANCE I WISH TO APOLOGISE TO MR C.

Is it just me, or in that photo, does Phil look like Max Schreck (Nosferatu - Das Wampyr)? Oh, well at least he's vertical...

Fintan....(   )......on the radio the other night Mark Radcliffe asked for people to think up ficticious restaurants that might be owned by bands and suggest what they might have on the menu.
Someone called in with "The Pogues" restaurant with might serve "Broad Majestic Salmon" with "Salad MacLennanne"

If I Should Fall From Grace With COD......

The salad'd be nice with Bottle of Smokey Vinaigrette. Or Thousands Are Sailing To Ireland dressing, maybe. How about a slice of roast Body of An American?

Or the Turkish Pide of The Damned?

Can I book a table fer me and my 12 apostles?
HAPPY ST. PATRICK'S DAY!

I'll have Hotdogs With Everything, The Fiesta Platter, some Squid Out of Water and maybe the Greenland Whale Fish lightly dipped in a Batter of Brisbane topped off with some malt vinegar... and I'll drink them down with Whiskey In The Jar!

Happy St Patrick's Day Fintan and Behan and everyone else on here :D

Philip, have a great night in NYC - wish I was there

When you have a minute would you tell me what kind of instrument a cittern is , please?

I've asked 4 local musicians what it is and they didn't know. I suspect they think I'm talking nonsense...

Well, this is not a definitive answer, but here's a brief explanation & some photos of citterns.

A Cittern is a large, 8-stringed instrument of the mandolin family, of 17th century vintage. It resembles both a mandola and a bouzouki

Sometimes they come as 10-strings. My cittern is an 8-string, similar to Terry Wood's as seen on the FoNY video. It can also be known as an octave mandolin, mandocello, bouzouki - It's basically a larger mandolin one octave lower than a mandolin and a deeper tone. Usually tuned E A D G

Here's a good representation. My cittern is the far left in comparison to the guitars and mandolin.
