nice one - cheers (and an example of a bottle of fine rose referred to by Mr. C elsewhere on here is clearly in view!)
Last night as I slept I dreamt I met with Behan, I shook him by the hand as we passed the time of day.

I'm sure this has been covered elsewhere, but Martin O'Malley plays in a band named O'Malley's March, which is apparently going to go on hiatus shortly because the mayor of Baltimore is gearing up to run for governor (of the state o' Maryland).

Martin will make a fine Governor, along with Kinky Friedman in Texas.

I'll be voting for him. And not (strictly) because he's a Pogues fan.

He was in an (early September) Labor Day party about a block from where I live, and when he came around shaking hands (kicking off his campaign,) I asked him about having opened for the Popes at the 9:30 Club a few years back.

He smiled and said that he had a great time. I think I threw him off, because most people were just shaking his hand, wishing him luck with his campaign, etc. I'm not claiming to have been a fascinating conversationalist, but he and I exchanged a couple of comments and then he moved on to shake some more hands, kiss some babies and grandmas, etc.

Anyone remember O'Malley's march opening up for the Popes in 2000?

O'Malley chided DC for being ransacked by the British in 1814 and then refused to play Dirty Old Town: "You want me to play that with the master in the back? Are you insane?"

Not sure he gets my vote, and I certainly am no fan of B'more, but I'll grant, Martin's got a great sense of humour.
I like this bad set and I like getting drunk at luncheon.

Lets hope O'Malley wins the election in Maryland, then runs for the White House in 2012 or 2016. I really think he has what it takes to be elected. Can you imagine The Pogues playing the inaugural ball?? I saw his band open for Shane and The Popes in Towson back in 2001. It was good fun.

Yeah, March 20th 2001. Shane and the lads were in good form that night. They even played South Australia for one of the encores. I got a great bootleg of the show. Nice little venue.

I knew Martin when he was young and played with the "Shannon Tide". They were a local DC/Baltimore group that never balked at playing a nationalist song. He's a good Irish republican and a better US democrat. Hard working, down to earth, well educated, and good to his mother. He'll make a fine president some day soon.
