NPR National Public Radio

Post Sun Mar 12, 2006 2:01 pm

I recorded an interview for NPR yesterday for those of you who listen to this great station. Don't know the broadcast dates, sorry.

Non-US readers: NPR is American radio's Public Service broadcasting system.

Was it for Fresh Air with Terry Gross? :D If so, she's a fantastic interviewer.

That's great! They post almost everything on the web, so we should get a shot at it soon.

That was my guess, too -- Terry Gross.

If the interview was for Fresh Air, the broadcast times would be various -- depending on the time individual NPR stations broadcast the show, but people could pro'ly find out when the interview will air by checking the NPR website for scheduling info.

Oh well, I look forward to hearing it anyway. I'll be the one sitting on the beltway in massive D.C. traffic with the huge grin on my face.

Seems like a safe bet that it'll air sometime this week. If I were to place a bet, I'd go with Friday, March 17.

Someone please post a link whenever it airs. (I'm assuming, perhaps erroneously, that the interview will be posted online after broadcast...?)

I don't listen to NPR all the time anymore... But thanks for the heads-up, Mr. Chevron.

Well, one of the NPR stations in DC is airing a story about an archbishop having granted a special dispensation that allows the Hibernians of Omaha (Nebraska) to serve up their annual St. Patrick's Day corned beef-and-cabbage dinner.

But I haven't heard an NPR interviewer by the name o' Mike interviewing Mr. C. Not yet, at least... My guess is that it'll air tomorrow.

Very Disappointing Piece

Post Fri Mar 17, 2006 10:17 pm

The interview is posted now. Some good comments about the background of the band. A lot of the discussion is focused on Shane, and the reporter give's an inaccurate description of the Atlantic City show. Says that Shane "...staggered around the stage swigging beer and some brown liquid from a glass bottle..." Then he complains about being "thwarted" in all attempts to interview him. All-in-all not a flattering piece at all, and he threw in a few, what I guess he thought were cute, shots too. Media finding the negativity wherever they can, I guess. I'll have to send the reporter and his management an e-mail letting him know how disappointing and inaccurate the piece is. Afterall, NPR is supported by my tax dollars.

Most positive thing indicated is that with the sold out tour, maybe there's another, more extensive one, in the works. Any possibility of that?

Uhm, I don't think I like Mike that much, to be honest. Maybe he didn't like Mr C's comment about the anti-moslem feelings...

Shane wrote a song which mentions Behan, and the other band members thought that this could have been heard by Yeats in a pub??? Did the interviewer really say that? You Pogues must be rolling over when you hear such comments, pure slander. Or perhaps this is the proof that ghosts do exist after all?

And yes, interesting point about the perception of Muslims now compared to that of the Irish half a generation ago.
