Entertainment Weekly Pogues Article

Post Sat Feb 18, 2006 4:14 pm

In the newest issue of Entertainment Weekly (Feb 24th issue- Steve Carell on the cover), there's a Pogues article in the "Listen To This" section. Article starts on page 6 of listen to this.

Then after that article, is Billy Bragg picking his 12 fav. albums! great issue EW!

Billy Bragg's Top 12:

1. Laura Nyro - New York Tendaberry
2. Various artists - Motown Chartbusters vol. 3
3. The Clash - The Clash
4. Bob Marley and the Wailers - Live! At The Lyceum
5. The Shangri-Las - Golden Hits of the Shangri-Las
6. David Bowie - Ziggy Stardust
7. Paul Robeson - Ballad for Americans
8. Chuck Berry - The Great Twenty-Eight
9. Bob Dylan - The Times They Are A-Changin'
10. The Jam - Sound Affects
11. The Louvin Brothers - Tragic Songs of Life
12. Joanna Newsom - The Milk-Eyed Mender

Anyway, yeah, good Pogues article in EW. It's the one with Steve Carell on the cover -- there's a great article about "The Office" in there, too, with some great pics of the cast, including Jenna Fischer (Pam) looking sssmokin' hot!!!

I did a search on the EW site for the article, but it was not to be found. Too new, I suppose. A positive review of "Pogue Mahone" showed up, however.
Did the old songs taunt or cheer you, and did they still make you cry?

There are two versions of the current EW. I don't know why. One with Pat Gilbert's article about us, and Billy Bragg's Top 12. The other one without. Both ediitions have Steve Carell on the front. The edition with the Pogues' piece in it has a diagonal yellow stripe in the top right hand corner of the cover that says - well, I don't know what it says, because I don't have it to hand at the moment. Every last copy I've seen on the stands here is the edition without the Pogues' piece. Maybe the edition with the Pogues' piece is only for home delivery. It's all a bit mysterious.

If anyone can scan the New Yorker cartoon and paste it here, that would be great.

I saw the cartoon, full color. It clearly includes Mr. MacGowan, Mr. Fearnley and Mr. Chevron but then, apparently strapped for space, they crossed Mr. Stacy with Mr. Hunt while Mr. Finer was crossed with Mr. Woods. Not a sign from Mr. Ranken either.

I saw it in my school's library but we're not allowed to remove them from the building. I'll see if I can smuggle it out to a scanner.

I have it here, saved on my desktop. However, I am woefully under-educated in the ways of advanced posting. I cannot find a way to attach it to a post. I looked at the FAQ but came away even more perplexed. Sorry, Mr. C. If there is any way to get it out there to be seen, advice is more than welcomed.
