The Great Hunger

This documentary, originally made in 1997, is well worth seeing, on BBC4 Friday 17 Feb at 10pm. See: http://www.bbc.co.uk/bbcfour/listings/i ... ce_id=4544

After watching Folk Britannia and Great Hunger it made me dig out an old video recording of 'South of Watford' ( weekly series shown on LWT in mid 80's) from which footage was shown earlier. I probably hadn't watched this for 10 yrs plus !

Bearing in mind this was originally shown on TV in 1984 it's quite funny to hear Ben Elton who narrated the programme say at the end something along the lines of " I think it will be some time before we see a band like The Pogues make the charts and it's much more likely that some of the other bands featured (Shilleagh Sisters / Helen and the Horns etc) get there before them !

Talking of Ben Elton I've got a video somewhere of the famous Friday Night Live performance when The Birmingham 6 was cut halfway through. The makers denied censorship but it was announced the song was banned not long after that. I'll have to dig that video out as I haven't seen it in years.
The Great Hunger was really good, even though Shane wasn't his usual self. After all, Shane working at 50% still has more worth hearing that most other people at 100%!

I've got that on video too, I found it the other week, just wondering whether it was worth putting onto DVD, but it's a bit short.

I missed the documentary but just got The part of Folk Britania with Philip, and then Shane and Spider. That was cool. Anyone know If the great hunger will be shown again?
