Yes they did.

During the end credits you can see our Mr. Chevron plant a peck on the cheek of the guest host, one Mr. Rob Lowe.

Much as I would like to claim that I frequently kiss Hollywood stars, I feel I should explain that Rob Lowe was doing his first TV show since his private motel porn home movie was widely circulated and damaged his career for a while. So I couldn't resist spiking his rehabilitation with a little gay subtext.

I think we played "Body Of An American" and "White City".

No Simon, we didn't. Nor did we take part in any sketches. Shame, I kinda liked "The Great Irish Song About Drinking And Fighting" or whatever it was called.

I think you also did an instrumental. Battle of Brisbane? Wildcats of Kilkenny? Something like that. It got cut from the 1 hour rerun version of SNL (the first broadcast show is 90 minutes with three musical performances, and for rerun they cut them down to 60 minutes with two musical performances).

I suspect it to be an instrumental 'cause I read it somewhere at some point (but am too lazy to go hunt it down), and because Dennis Miller at the beginning of the Weekend Update says something incongruous with the lead-in sketch like:

"I love The Pogues, but I'm a sucker for lyrics."

Hmm. I guess you have to see it for that to make sense.

If I recall correctly, Dennis Miller's quip that he's a sucker for lyrics was after "White City" and was due to the fact that Shane's rendition of the song on SNL left the words almost totally unintelligible, even if you already knew them!

I saw that show live and I do not recall 3 songs being done. As a rule, SNL only has the musical act do 2 songs.

It is possible they did Brisbane during a commercial break, I get the impression that happens. Also possible they really did the third song and I just don't remember.

I would swear that I read somewhere that there was a third song, and instrumental.

I'm probably wrong though.
