I don't know about you, but I'm only interested in celebrating the present. If that present contains a reminder of the joys and pains of the past, so much the better.

Well put. I think 99% of us find the reunion gigs most exciting. The band only gets better with time.

oh no no..that´s absolutely not the point...i´m a huge fan of the pogues since 18 years now and i´m sure that the reunion gigs were fantastic, the fony docu was really good (with a great fake studio session in it ) and it´s great to see you back in the media flashlight...and it´s fair to say that everyone has the right to celebrate the good time people had together....no problem...
but i was looking 2,3 years further in time....so all i wanna know is: is it only a celebration? nothing more? are the pogues a real BAND?? or only part-time-play-together-musicians with no bigger plans for the future and musical ideas as a group? cause that´s what a band is in my eyes...musical creativity....not only on stage.

pls don´t misunderstand me...don´t wanna make anyone angry...my english is not the best...so be kind.

and by the way...of cause no single best of album itself is shite...cause the songs are too brilliant...but who the fuck needs the 6th or 7th version of it? :?:

A "band" is whatever it says it is. But if you mean are we going to step back onto the relentlessly-in-motion-hamster-wheel which made everyone except the band a lot of money and status, the answer is "No", not even for you, friend. 8)

thx phil...but i don´t EXPECT nothing...who am i to expect something from you guys...i just wanna know what all the reunion-hype stands for and where it leads the "band"...i understood that noone seems to have the desire in making a new album and i think this will never happen....but if it´s so and you´ll continue it for the next years doing "reunion" concerts, than the man who wrote this article is right when he said that the pogues are the best pogues-tribute-band...

Thanks to everyone who replied to this post.I thought the article raised alot of questions that have been posed on these forums since I joined. As I've posted elsewhere Pogues music is timeless, which makes the argument that they are irrelavent (on the grounds they haven't any new material)redundant. These critics also forget that The Pogues success was built on their skill as a BAND!!! As anyone who attended at Christmas will testify, they are life affirming and totally relevant!!!

hi st. peter...i don´t know if you really understood what i´ve posted:

1. who said here (me included) that the pogues are irrelavent on the grounds they haven't any new material? they will never be irrelevant cause the music they wrote 15-22 years ago (wfh and pm excluded) was brilliant and still is!! music that means so much to so many people around the world and still does!

2. These critics also forget that The Pogues success was built on their skill as a BAND???
NO of course NOT! noone will forget that. but as you said - it WAS. what are the pogues now after all these years of parting? why are they back? to re-release old singles after another (as a few posters here want to)? to celebrate the successful music of the past? to give them new life in concerts? which is great cause the band is still one of the best live acts i´ve ever seen in my life.

but will it still be great if they´ll continue this year after year? reunion concerts with the same set list? if it´s so that they are so lucky to be back together and that the atmosphere is so good on tour then what is the problem in going into a studio and to write new "relevant" songs? why isn´t it going to happen? why? where is the musical output of these talented musicians? either as a band or as solo artists? what about terry or shane or phil or jem....? where were you before the reunions started to happen? where will you be in maybe 5 years..still on tour that´s called "reunion"?

ok...if it leads you to germany...i will be there... i hope we will pay enough

sorry for disturbing the harmony here....
