It's not precisely slide guitar, but pedal steel, played by the legendary BJ Cole. It's 85 or 86. 85 most likely.

This was just posted to YouTube today, so I am not sure if this has been around the raft.

1985 clip of The Boys from County Hell The Tube Channel 4. Looks like the Pogues w/Cait, but pre-Terry and Mr. Chevron, though Shane takes care of both the guitar and chapeau. It appears that at this point in their careers, they couldn't afford a proper drum kit and stool for Andrew. Video states "Shane MacGowan has to slur the lyrics due to them containing swear words and being broadcast live on daytime TV." Enjoy
