So they're OK with "arse" now then? I suppose that's a step forward...

Thank you sir. But no - work has not commenced with the other songs. I butcher lyrics on an as-needed basis only.

Looking at the Christmas Radio Times it seems that the show IS on at 8pm on the Thursday, and it is a special Christmas show, not a standard episode of "Friday night with...".

All the same this is pathetic, and, as much as us fans really want to see this performance go ahead I think we would also support the band's decision to boycott the show under these circumstances.

Personally I will have been at Brixton the night before and I'm sure no TV show could top that, but it would be a shame not to get a prime-time plug for the single to help it get to number one at Christmas.

I'm sure you will let us know what happens Phil.

Is it on BBC3 now by the way? It says on the pogues frontpage.

And is anyone going to record in on their computer and put it on the ftp so people who are going to the gigs can watch it then?

No it doesn't. The front page says that The Story of Fairytale of New York will air on BBC3. This has nothing to do with the Jonathan Ross show.

Ok.

Just back from doing the Ross Show. Having made it clear to them we were not going to change our performance to suit the sensibilities of some self-appointed puritan jobsworth, The Pogues performed FoNY as written and without any further comment from the BBC. There's still the chance they'll bleep it but this is beginning to look remote now because they showed a clip of the original video and guess which part of the song they showed? Right, the part they had spent most of yesterday persuading Warners to persuade us to censor!!! Unbelievable!

Katie Melua was a delight and we will be recording another TV show - called CDUK - with her on Saturday. The Ross show also features Ricky Gervais, Barbara Windsor and Jools Holland.

Dave, we were speechless! But not nearly as furious as the TV promo woman from Warners who had her valuable time wasted over the whole business.
