It would be an awful shame if this didn't go ahead, I'd really love to hear Katie sing Fairytale with Shane.

But it's true Philip.
How can the BBC put a show on that must "break" all their rules then go and band you sayin four words?
Thought thats why they brought in the 9 o'clock watershed?? The show is on like what,10.30pm 11pm??
Your right to put your foot down.Fuck them if they turn you lot away, their loss.

You couldn't make this up could you? It's beyond pathetic

There's some kind of weird irony that one of the objections is to the use of the word faggot on a programme where the house band is called "Four Puffs and a Piano".

Editorial Complaints Unit – Quarterly Report July-Sept 2005

Friday Night with Jonathan Ross, BBC1, 6 May 2005

A viewer complained about the occurrence of the f-word

Further action:

In Friday Night with Jonathan Ross, the most offensive words will be appropriately masked.

You'd've thought the most appropriate further action would've been to tell the miserable get to fuck off and watch something else.........

As is most often the case the obvious response ("Don't watch it if you don't like it.") is rarely the one given. The less obvious and much more onerous response is inevitably to cowtoe to the one complainer and turn the progam(me) into a milquetoast affair that only somebody suffering from severe brain damage would find amusing.

Dont give in to these idiots. Can you believe that we still have to pay a license fee to keep numpties like that in a job.
If they dont back down you should make sure that everybody knows that the bbc refused to screen what is in effect a charity recording.
You never know look what happened to God Save The Queen-any publicity is good publicity.
By the way does that mean it will now be banned from the radio.
In the words of John Lydon...FUCKING RIDICULOUS

CHANGE OF DATE FOR BROADCAST OF JONATHAN ROSS SHOW
The Jonathan Ross Show with The Pogues featuring Katie Melua will now be broadcast on DECEMBER 22 at 8pm and NOT December 9 as originally announced. Only Katie will be chatting with Jonathan.

philipchevron wrote:It's baffling actually - they have been screening the 1987 Top Of The Pops appearance (in which Kirsty sings ASS for arse but still leaves the listener in no doubt that she is not discussing donkeys) for the past EIGHTEEN YEARS!!!!!!!

We will not budge on this. The BBC could always bleep out the words later, and there's nothing we could do about it, but frankly, they'll look ridiculous if they do that on a show which airs after 9 pm.

Honestly, in KINDERGARTENS all over the British Isles, 5 YEAR OLD CHILDREN sing the words of FoNY!!!

bit baffled here phil you say 8pm 22 dec
then after 9pm

j ross 8pm on thurs dont sound right
would have thought his normal time on fri would be ok.

still cant believe the bbc and there victorian values, jeez gordon ramsay on ch4 9pm rants and raves and he`s glorified in the media.

are they gonna edit the documentary as well or will that be allowed ,seen as its on one of they`re lesser channels
I DONT DRINK ANYMORE!!!!!

THEN AGAIN I DONT DRINK ANYLESS!!!

Shame that it's not a live show ......could have agreed to the BBC's request and then launched into "Donegal Express" ......that would give them something to panic about !!

It's frankly unbelievable. Except it's not, because it's typical of the prejudices of the media, choosing to censor or not in an apparently entirely arbitrary manner.
And if it's a "watershed" problem, then why have they decided to shift Ross on this occasion from the usual broadcast time, which is post-watershed?

Stick to your guns, Mr C, and good luck!

(And DzM - that's a brilliant start... is work now commencing on censored versions of the rest of the Pogues' songs in case of future need? "...And when we've done those fellows in we'll storm the BBC")

Christ that's crap! I don't get it ... It's after the 9 pm watershed. I've heard the word [cover your ears] 'cunt' on the BBC after the watershed. And I've heard farytale on the bbc before the watershed many a time ...cm

Using an International Dictionary

Faggot = a bundle of twigs

Junk = refuse

Slut = a wooden bolt in a watermill

Scumbag = eskimo word for a sledge.

So what's the problem?   cm
