Christmas day for me too ;-)

I'm surprised there was no booklet included with the DVD. And no extras considering the amount of footage they had gathered for this.

Well it's taken until new year's eve to sit down with a pint of Guinness and Mrs McGreer to watch it.

We loved it; especially the childhood scenes filmed in and around the home place and the townlands of Tipperary where Shane spent his formative years. The animated scenes that flesh out Shane's narration are also brilliant.

Now, i've never had a problem understanding Shane's speech but this is tough going. Shane's recollections are played through the effect of an old tape recorder. After 15 minutes I started again with the subtitles on. I could either enjoy the visuals and struggle the dialogue or switch on the subs and miss the visuals.

Siobhan stands out as the star contributor. Her honesty is stark, funny and heartbreaking. Gerry Adams gets the most interaction. Shane seems to respond to the way Gerry just chats to him as an old friend rather just straight up questions. Poor old Bobby Gillespie tries the 'question' tactic and gets completely burned.

I was hoping for more from Depp but his highlight was being told by Shane that he couldn't sit through a full movie with Johnny pretending to be a Pirate.

I'm going to start a campaign to get the footage that the official cameras recorded on the night of Shane's 60th at Dublin's National Concert Hall. Mats and i were chatting to one of the camera men that night and he said it won't be released.... "it's just for the archives". Having just seen a few clips on this movie it's a crime to hide it away :x :x Actually, you can keep Bono's 'Rainy Night' hidden but not Lisa O'Neil's 'Birmingham Six'

Yes there's lots of footage us fans have seen before but I'll watch it again............and again 8)

They showed a plaque to mark that Shane lived in a building during 79-82. Does anybody know where it is? I guess Burton Street in London. I was there last year and I didn´t see it but since I didn´t know about it I never looked for it.

Thanks for the link. It's a very good interview with Temple. I also felt sorry for Bobby Gillespie

That's a cracking interview. I found watching the documentary quite difficult. It is pretty sad to see Shane so physically wrecked and bordering on unintelligible at times, but his warmth and wit came through and Temple did a fine job of celebrating the miracle that he's still around at all.

Yep i wholeheartedly agree. What i find difficult is listening to his close friends or associates saying he's working on a new album and is gonna be getting in shape for a few gigs. Do they really believe that? Oh how I wish it was going to happen though :(

Especially as this is, I believe, the 3rd time he's been working on a new album.

There's two kind of rockstars in the world: those who publish album after album after album, and those who say the new album is coming soon.

Watched it today, some parts brilliant, some parts cringeworthy, i agree with others Shane does not look particularly healthy as the film finished. Any news on how he is now?

Bono is grotesque.
I hadn’t seen that performance, I want to stab me eye and ear.
Fuck.

Worse than that Richard lounge singer guy who covers “Holiday in Cambodia”.
The wig.

The clips of a young Mr. MacGowan on the come-up were interesting.
A few live clips I hadn’t seen, plus the ones everyone has all in a row is convenient.

Overall, probably a predictable way to go toward the end.
I don’t know what I expected, but this ain’t it.

The Creedence Clearwater Revival stuff, LOL. I hate that band so much.
Put me in, coach. I’m ready to play, todaaaay.
