New book by Calum Bruce: Hibs and The Pogues, Double A-side

Post Fri Dec 09, 2016 7:42 pm

Our very own Calum Bruce, author from the fantastic book "The Pogues, the best night out in town", has released his second book "Hibs and The Pogues, Double A-side".

If it's anything like his first book it surely will be a cracker!

There are two contributions from fellow Pogues fans within (who might that be.....) and also a quote from Irvine Welsh himself on the cover.

It is available to pre-order at amazon right now:

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Hibs-Pogues-si ... alum+bruce

So no excuses for not finding a perfect christmas gift for the ones you love or yourself ;-)

As soon as I will get my copy I will sit back with it and get me a glass (well... maybe some more...) of The Pogues Irish whiskey.

Buy it. Read it. Recommed it. Nothing better than a new book including our favourite band!

Wow, was NOT expecting THIS !! Copy ordered from Amazon, the design is fantastic. I really hope it's as good as his last book.
Hope it arrives before Christmas, as I'll have time over the holiday to digest it properly. Well done Calum Bruce.
Can't wait to get it in my hands.
And the book !

My copy arrived today, and I've just got this feeling that it's going to be a great read. So very very welcome.
As far as The Pogues are concerned, it looks like it may well be "over." So stuff like this keeps the fire burning a little bit longer.
I've always felt that James Fearnley's personal story was not entirely finished, wouldn't it be great if he came out with a follow up to
"Here comes everybody." The books are very much my thing.
Just like the music you can listen ( or read them) again and again.
Does anyone know if there is a hardcover copy available this time ?
Merry Christmas to all on The Medusa.

Bloody Hell! Where did this come from? And how did I not know about it until now? Schoolboy error on my part. Will not have this before Christmas, more's the pity. To echo what was asked above, is there any "Special" editions or Hardcover or anything? Any information would be gratefully received.
Alarmed to see the recent photos of dear Shane in The Press. He looks so frail, but at least he appeared happy. And I'll be happy when I get a hold of this new book. Joy!

Hi to all on the raft. To answer the question on a hardback copy of my book, well, I'm hoping that a hardback edition will indeed be available sometime in the near future. if that's the case then you'll hear all about it on this thread.
I'd like to take this opportunity to thank Hendrik Streu and Lionel Grosheny for their' brilliant contributions contained within. Fantastic Pogues stories from them both.
Wishing everyone a very Merry Christmas, and of course, a "Happy Birthday" to the main man, on Christmas Day.

I have just this very minute finished reading your' book Hibbypogue, and once again, I thoroughly enjoyed it and am actually gutted that I'm at the end. Powerful stuff with your' late Father and The Pogues music, extremely moving.

I didn't expect it to be so "dirty" with the other subjects you wrote about, but I tell you, it's funny as F'.
The Pogues chapters are fantastic. Hendik Streu's contribution was entertaining, and words fail me when it comes to Lionel Grosheny's input, on how the Paris shows evolved. Amazing.

So, I would recommend this book for sure to all Pogues fans. And football fans. And fans of dirty, funny stuff!

Nice one Calum !

My copy arrived just in time before christmas, thanx Calum!

Looks beautiful, cool size, like a 7" vinyl I would say!

Just got through the first pages yet and so far it is as entertaining like your first book, great work, mate!

About halfway through your' book Hibbypogue. Not what I was expecting if I'm truthful, but there is nothing disappointing in that statement. The extracts on the Pogues gigs ( so far) are up to the standard of your' last book. But you really are a dirty fucker! And it's real, refreshing and very honest! The Hibs thing needs binned, but I salute you on your' achievement. Will be back when I'm done. Hope to fuck the second half is as entertaining. Can't wait until bedtime, when I will next indulge!

As promised, now that I'm finished it, I'm back!
There's a lot of stuff going on in this book which I did enjoy, but I feel on this forum I need to concentrate on just The Pogues stuff.
At one point, I felt that Calum was going to "flesh things out" as his story came to an end in terms of live shows.
But I was wrong. Caring for John Carey in particular was well out of the box and funny. And to be fair, it's stated throughout that it's a book mainly about the fans. Lionel Grosheny's contribution makes you kick start the DVD player and go to Paris. Hendrik Streu's contribution is charming.
Very enjoyable, and a must read for fans that visit this site. Buy it, or better still, steal it!

Many thanks for all the comments on this thread in regards to my book.
The Courier article indicates that Shane has read the book.
Well, I don't think that's the case, as yet. Hopefully, he'll get round to it at some point.
He's read the final chapter though, the one that really mattered, the one where my late father would be turned into an emotional wreck, through his music.
Shane's unconditional magic, seriously shone on my Dad. And gave him some fantastic times that his dementia couldn't deter.
God bless you, Shane MacGowan.

I can reveal that I've recently discovered that there are two different versions of the book available. The Amazon "version" (that I have) has black and white pictures. And as much as I enjoyed them, there is actually a colour version, which I believe is exclusively available from the author, Calum. He can be contacted here of course, but also at hibsandthepogues@gmail.com
The colour version is more in tune with looking like a 7 inch single, it's actually smaller and neater than the Amazon job.
All very confusing ( and frustrating) but to be fair, I have a colour copy, hurtling it's way in the post to me right now.
No news ( I did ask) about a hardcover as yet. I much prefer a hardcover. Easier to keep in good nick.
