I'm going back to England in May. Is there anywhere in Oldham or Manchester that sells the Pogues whiskey? I will be visiting London too if it's not up north. Any suggestions?

Many thanks for the kind words of encouragement..and a happy 2017 xxx
By the way..last night my wife went to a new year's eve party in a local pub..I stopped at home watching episodes of The Wire..today i've been tending her hangover with complete empathy..whilst being truly thankful that I am hangover-free :D

I received both the big bottle and two miniatures as Christmas presents. Just can't bring myself to crack them open. The bottles themselves are a work of art. You can get pi***d on cheaper products, and still look at the black bottle. Safe in the knowledge that they are there for a really special occasion. Like celebrating news of a Pogues tour. Or promotion for Peterborough.

I'll admit i've got the same issue. My underage daughter smuggled me a bottle back from Ireland in August and i've not cracked it yet!

Maybe today is the day Mr McGreer, as I settle down to watch the Man Utd v Liverpool match. But I just cant help wondering if this brew would be any good in a trifle, or to lace a wild mushroom sauce for a steak? Tesco Blue Stripe Value Whiskey gets me pished, and it really doesn't matter if I treat the bottle badly. The Pogues Whiskey bottle though, should be handled, only whilst wearing white gloves. and you know that makes good sense.

I reckon the only bottle of whiskey in this house that I wouldn't open and drink is the one with a snake in it.
Likes the warm feeling but is tired of all the dehydration.

Anybody know where I can get a miniature bottle or the accompanying glass (or any other stuff Pogues Whiskey related) in Ireland?

The large bottle is easy enough to come by, but anything else I've only ever seen photos on the net.

I'm new to the forum (but not The Pogues - 1st gig in '88) so .... Hello Everybody!

Well Father,
last night was indeed the night. What a mess, as I necked almost half a bottle of the best potion, on top of an army of beer cans. I've been in bed all day, with a really sore head, just flicking through my Pogues book collection, and posting on here. If i don't feel better soon, the other half is getting sunk. I take it this meets with your' approval, and advice...."just drink the shit" ?

Well I'll tell you that I wouldn't be able for that. I don't drink whiskey except in a hot whiskey with a spoon of sugar. However, the cans would be more my style. Sleep the hangover off and save the rest of the whiskey for another day.

Actually, I tell a lie. I did once drink whiskey and the result was I nearly missed the Pogues' Rum, Sodomy And The Lash gig in Glasgow. I travelled over on my own to Glasgow for my first visit to Scotland. I checked into the hotel then headed out for a bite to eat and a quick pint of plain (or two). Found a little pub just around the corner from where a helicopter had crashed into a pub just 2 weeks earlier. Got chatting to a retired Navy fella who introduced me Scotch. Big mistake. Went back to my room and fell asleep having not eaten. Woke up at 8pm feeling shite, starving and missed the meet

A thing i learned that day? Never underestimate the ability of a salty old sea dog to drink you under the table. I'm a lightweight.

Great story, and I can sympathise totally with the lightweight thing re Whiskey. I do my best, but the cans and bottles of beer are more my style too. Really good that you didn't miss the gig though. A golden rule for Pogues gigs over the years, is no matter how fucked you are with brew, you should NEVER miss the gig.
I'm going to buy a hat, and take it off to you father. For making it to the gig. Even if you did feel like excrement.
