Now that you mention it, the make up job just could have been the work of New Romantic butler Dickon Edwards.

Either Shane was spinning, or Romantic was watching TV, cooking coffee and working on Shane at once. Shane can lose eyes with such assistants

Sounds like it was a great documentary, as I hoped it would be. Too bad the only chance BBC America will ever run it is if they do a new version in which Philip and James (or any two other randomly selected Pogues) have 2 days and £500 to redecorate a room in each others' houses. BBC America seems to have a policy whereby they will only broadcast programs with Carol Smillie and/or Alistair Appleton in them. Or possibly they can digitally insert the Pogues into an old episode of "Are You Being Served?" -- BBCA would show that, too. "Mr. MacGowan, are you free?" "I'm free, motherfucker!"

Story of Fairytale of New York

Post Thu Oct 26, 2006 6:27 pm

Just watched that once again. Wonderful documentary, nice interviews - great.

Now here is my official note to the British Broadcasting Corporation:

Dear BBC,

I hereby demand the immediate production of the following documentaries:

The Story of Streams of Whiskey

The Story of Rainy Night in Soho

The Story of Summer in Siam

The Story of all the Songs on IISFFGWG and RS&TL

and last not least

The Story of Pachinko

If my demands are not followed, I will force you to broadcast German sitcoms for the next five years.

Yours sincerely,

Fairytale of New York Documentary

Post Fri Oct 12, 2007 11:03 am

Hello
Remember 2 years ago (December 05) there was a documentary on BBC 3 about the making of this song? It had interviews with the band and I think they even re-grouped and performed it live in the studio....
Well I have to confess that I wasn't into the band at the time but watched it because I knew the song, so now I'm itching to see it again!
I can't seem to find it anywhere on the internet and thought that someone may be able to point me in the right direction.
Failing that I guess it will be shown again this Christmas?

Cheers

I tried to legally purchase a copy directly from the BBC and they gave me a resounding NO! Let me know if you find one.

The Story of... Fairytale of New York

For the first time in 18 years, all eight members of the Pogues return to the studio where their biggest hit and the nation's favourite Christmas song was recorded. Producer Steve Lillywhite strips Fairytale down to the basics and video director Peter Dougherty reveals the tricks behind the making of the video - including how a cameo from Hollywood star Matt Dillon stopped the Pogues from almost being arrested.
