Was just watching a show in the USA called "History Detectives" on PBS. There was a segment on a spy-glass (those telescopy-thingies that sailors are shown with that date from the 1800s). I heard:

If I Should Fall From Grace With God
South Australia
Thousands are Sailing (twice no less)

Sadly no music credit was provided at the end of the show, so nobody entertained by it would have been able to find it.

I was at Chapters/Starbucks two nights ago, mostly looking at Travel books about Boston (for my trip in March), and suddenly hear a familiar sound.

First I heard Spider's voice, then I could just make out Love You Till The End from Pogue Mahone.

I forget what preced this song, but it was followed by Sarah McLaughlin (sp?). UGH!

BTW, all the Boston travel books preceded the completin of the Big Dig.

Oh yeah I remember hearing Love you Til the End on a recent episode of THE OC!!!! that was weird. (bad show yet i watch it nonetheless

Apologies if you've seen this in another post but HBO's The Wire has featured Pogues tunes on several occasions. The last was a policeman's wake where cast members sang "Body of an American" over the dead detectives corpse. Moments later, cast member Bunk Moreland puked all over the sidewalk while Sally Mac blared in the background. Epic television moment.

When I was driving home from work a few months ago and listening to Radio 2 the DJ played 'A Pair of Brown Eyes' and when the song had finished he said some great things about Shane's songwriting and the band. I was so pleased to hear a Pogues song on the radio in November (a little early for FONY) and turned it up as loud as I could - it was wonderful and I just couldn't believe my luck.

the other day I heard Sunny Side of the Street on a Cadillac ad. A happy family driving off smiling while Shane mumbles..
"so I spyed a train and I got on it with a heart full of hate and a lust for vomit..."
I thought the joke was on Cadillac, as I'm sure they didn't know the words!

I heard "Fairytale" on EastEnders a couple weeks ago.

last summer I was ready to move out of California and had heard good things about Portland, Oregon, so my friends and I came up for a few days to check it out. We went into some random pizza place for lunch one day and they were playing "Streams of Whiskey"! Then the next day we went to some used clothing store and they were playing "All The Time In The World" by The Nips! Portland is an awesome place and I would have moved here either way, but hearing those two songs that first weekend of visiting just sealed the deal for me.

The end of My Own Private Idaho...The Old Main Drag comes on and I had a heart attack.

When I was a senior at the University of Vermont we watched the movie "Basquiat" in one of my English Seminar classes. The very first thing you see in that movie is images of NYC with "Fairytale of New York" in the background. I was super psyched and perked right up, but the rest of the movie kind of fizzled out from there and pretty much sucked (even though David Bowie plays Andy Warhol, which IS kind of amusing). But of all the times I've heard the Pogues from outside sources, that was definitely the most random.

Wow, I forgot about that. When I was a senior in high school my art class watched that! I was surprised to hear the pogues, but you're right the movie did kind of suck.
