Depends if it's Christmas shopping you're doing.

I only ever go shopping with Mrs Me for food and stuff, xmas shopping is usually done online these days, although I do recall buying my mum a gift at the Bus Station before getting on the bus and heading out to see her one year...
I wish I'd done biology for an urge within me wanted to do it then

Its a virtual Christmas tree of all things??!!

OK, so every Saturday I go to Lowes (an American warehouse type hardware store) with my 3 year old son. They have a very nice Build and Grow program, they give them
little kits to make things. Afterwards, my son loves to go look at (and buy) the snow globes and look at all the Christmas stuff. Amazing marketing -Chipmunks, Mickey Mouse, Snoopy, Disney Princesses, Rudolph, Nascar, etc.

So I notice tons of Elvis stuff-a guitar ornament that plays "Blue Christmas", a Christmas Dog ("Ain't Nothing but a Hound Dog, of course), Teddy Bear, M&M Elvis, when
divine inspiration hit. Why not a "Fairytale of NY" snowglobe- a NY cityscape, the little mini Shane & Kirsty, swirling snow & the greatest Christmas Song ever!!
I mean, I could honestly see this being a big seller at a Newbury Comics type place. Let's not have the Presley estate or Gene Simmons corner the whole rock n' roll merchandising niche!!

Yes I know. Every year I mean to add a snow globe to our December merchandise and every year I leave it too late to do anything about it.

Incidentally, I'm not sure I can ever listen again to the Bob Dylan Christmas Album until he at least gargles with warm water and table salt.

Just out of curiosity, does anyone ever see Fairytale in karoake songbooks in bars? Here in Kansas, the songbooks are usually dominated by country music (and by dominated, I mean only 5-8 songs by The Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin and most of the other mega rock bands and at least a solid page or two for the Reba McIntyre, Garth Brooks and assorted other country artists I've never heard of; I usually can't even find a single Clash song). I think I'd be up for singing Fairytale come December, if only I could find someone to take the female part. I don't see my wife doing that any time soon.

Okay, so it wasn't "Fairytale", but I did hear Dirty Old Town on KXT 91.7 in Dallas this morning . . .

Where as ten minutes into watching my little girls swimming lessson in Crosby Baths it came over loud and clear. The large smile was only partly due to being proud of my little girl ha ha ha

My husband heard FONY on the car radio last Saturday when he dropped me of at the shops! Still haven't heard it played anywhere yet so played my copy the other evening, along with many more great Pogues songs.
May the angels bright watch you tonight and keep you while you sleep
