I saw that show when it was on live and as I recall only Body of an American and White City were performed. 2 songs is or was the standard for musical guests on that show.

the night before SNL

Post Sat Mar 31, 2007 12:12 am

Anyone see the boys at the Palladium the night before the SNL show? i was at school in the bronx at the time and went down to the show. As I recall it was the first night of spring break. I was ver ver drunk myself, but I believe Black 47, their early days, opened the show. From the show I remember, I think, Terry singing Streets of Sorrow & Shane w/Birmingham Six. Only stands out because the stage may have been dark when Terry started singing. Also remember the floor being quite rowdy and Daryl or Spider (someone in the band on the left side of the stage facing the crowd) passing a bottle into the crowd--again very hazy.

Always wished I had a full setlist for this show, so if anyone knows please pass along.

The SNL show only included White City and Body, as I remember.

I have a vague recollection (it's been a long time since I've watched SNL) that the standard band format was two performances, one song in the first performance and two in the second. But I'm probably wrong.

I do know that the normal run time of the shows is 90 minutes, but when they're shown in syndication they're cut to 60 minutes, so I wouldn't be at all surprised if it's standard practice to eliminate one of three songs performed.

I was there!

Post Sat Mar 31, 2007 2:14 am

Hello all-
I was at the SNL gig and the Palliadium gig. I only remember them playing "Body of an American" and "White City"

The Palliadium gig was awsome! Very rowdy.

I'm accepting this as the definitive word on the matter. Unless Rob Lowe knows better.

What reason would there be for it to be banned? It doesn't have any lyrics :?
Unless they thought kids might imitate banging trays on their heads.

That said, stranger things happen. The final shot of the "Fiesta" video, in which a glass of red wine falls on the ground, breaking the glass and spilling wine everywhere, was banned in most TV territories (and MTV) for being too "violent".

Yet little kids all over America and abroad are watching cartoons like "Tom & Jerry" or "Ed, Edd n Eddy" :?

All I know for sure about this appearance, Oirish, is that I was very very drunk (St Patrick's Day and all that) and that I kissed Rob Lowe under the closing credits. He had just been involved in a hotel-video camera-sex exposé and was resurrecting his damaged career as a nice clean all-American boy by hosting Saturday Night Live. I thought I'd just help him along a little. The Pogues played "Body Of An American" and "White City" and the show also famously includes the SNL team doing their own song "The Great Irish Song About Drinking and Fighting". Boy, did we turn around some stereotypes that day.
