The Pogues miss the list

Post Mon Jun 04, 2018 4:30 pm

"A list of western bands banned in 1985 Soviet Union"

https://vaviper.blogspot.com/2018/06/he ... ed-on.html

Our favorite fellows somehow missed this list, yet Styx & Julio Iglasias make it? WTF?

Well, at least the Pet Shop Boys were ALSO left of this list as well. Probably the soviet-era spy state were fans of "You Were Always On My Mind".

Also, re: Black Sabbath & Iron Maiden: wtf is "religious obscurantism"?!

Intrigued by how they made the distinction between "eroticism" and "sex". Just imagining the committee meeting... "So, comrades, we've decided: Donna Summer is banned for eroticism, Tina Turner for sex. Shall we watch them one more time to make sure?"

And Depeche Mode for punk, violence. Sex, I could've understood...

Yeah, I was curious about that too. The best explanation I could come up with is:

"Brothers; Comrades: I can't explain Sex or Eroticism, but I certainly recognize it when I see and hear it."

Well, years before priests used to censor movies, looking for a woman’s bare leg or inappropriate kisses to have them - literally - cut. What should have known a priest about all that?

Yea, I know...

I cannot disagree at all with Styx being on the list.

I always remember seeing a Styx Behind the Music (or something like that) and Tommy Shaw complaining about Dennis DeYoung wanted to do a long version of Dr. Roboto at the Texas Jam. "Really, it's like 99 degrees and these kids are dying in the heat!. They just wanna Rock!" "and he wants to do experimental opera!"
