Post Tue Mar 27, 2012 9:47 am

Hi, I posted this on the You Tube link but have taken it off now as its not relevant. Anyone know of the earliest live footage of the Pogues available? Im thinking Berlin 85 (think its Berlin anyway), Self Aid or possibly Grey Whistle Test or the tube? Anyone know of anything earlier?? :?: :D

Not a clue. Sometime in 1984, I'd say. It was an item on a late night magazine programme for the London/South East area focussing on the perceived punkabilly trend rocking the capital. The Shillelagh Sisters and the Boothill Foottappers were both singled out, as I recall, for durability and success. The Pogues not so much. Ooops!

We rehearsed today with Bob, the temp drummer. He catches on fast and we like him!

I spent the evening doing promo for the Radiators' Trouble Pilgrim: Japan Edition in Tokyo. Played a few songs, signed things, shook hands, had photo took, was interviewed in at least three languages, only one of which I understood. Anything that went wrong, I put down to jetlag. Anything that went right I attribute to Sota Matsui at Uncleowen Records. Had a blast.

I saw the Boothill Foot Tappers play last year at the 100 Club, though I think it was a one off, also on the bill that night was Swill From The Men They Couldn't Hang and the Blubbery Hellbellies. I much preferred cowpunk before it turned into alt country.

Pass It On: Music, Learning and Tradition (52 mins)

" Chasing Rainbows Series 1 Episode 3
This episode focuses on the learning process and how music is passed on from generation to generation. At the Lillian Bayliss School, South London, Chris Johnson leads his pupils in electro-synth bands, classical orchestral classes and steel drums. As he points out, 'There is no..."
"......By contrast, the Irish Centres in London's Camden Town, Liverpool and Newcastle still teach music with strong traditional discipline, although their Irish pupils often prefer a group like The Pogues, who have combined Irish folk with the shambolic speed and energy of music after punk (and alcohol)......."

Just re-watched this.The London Irish bit in c 10 mins in with a Pogues clip at c15 mins .

Post edit ;
The Pogues clip used in this doc. could be the reason why youtube had problems with c4 over copy write for The Pogues special by Antoine de Caunes from Rock Arena (ABC TV) .The Pogues special often being blocked by youtube in uk .
