And yes, get the Pogues on, they're even great when your' dusting and hoovering the house, hands in the air, and a wiggle....here and there....?!?!... Having read James Fearnley's then Calum Bruce's book back to back, I can say that I enjoyed them both very much. I found myself interested in Calum's life story (even the bloody football) and his humour had me laughing out loud. His story on The Pogues starts in the mid 80s, I liked the tales of his first few gigs, especially the hilarious taxi story. I also loved the parts when he included Pogues song titles into the script, borderline on being corny perhaps, but entertaining. A great read throughout, and, a great experience to read a band members memoirs, followed directly by that of a fans. I would recommend this book to anyone who has an interest in The Pogues.

Red Roses For YOU Scottie Dog, your comments gave me the ghost of a smile, enough to get me out the Gridlock of my Sickbed, Sit Down By The Fire and reach for my Bottle of Smoke. Me ? Corny ? Never! Ha ha. Seriously, I'm honoured that you mention my book in the same passage as James Fearnley's.

Thanks a lot, good night, good luck.

Yes, corny (but great!) I loved the bit in your book when you went to Dublin and met Shane, the experience sounded fantastic. I especially liked his friend, Paul, telling you that meeting your hero would not fill you with disappointment, and it turning out to be just like that with Shane. I also liked Paul MCluskeys contributions, it was a great idea, I thought to have a part written by another Pogues fan, very well written too. Congratulations, the book is really great, and I hope it does well in sales for you.

Paul McCluskey is indeed an accomplished writer, and I for one wish that he would write much more and share it with us. He really is a walking Pogues encyclopedia. The night I had in Dublin in his company with Shane was one of the highlights of my life. I also had the pleasure of his company on the weekend of Philip Chevron's Testimonial concert, as you'll obviously know, as it's a part of the book. Thanks for your' comments, I really appreciate them. Cheers.

Calum, you're too kind. It takes courage to put your writing out there for others to read. You've that on abundance.

Paul, it's high time that you dipped your' quill (steady!) into the ink pot, and treated us all to some short stories. You have a unique knack of cramming an awful lot of information, into really small passages. One day I hope, YOUR' writing will be out there, for others to read.

Not much chance me obtaining a copy from my local bookstore,in Zwolle NL,i'll have to try Amazon, from what i've read of the reviews, this sounds like the ultimate book from a fans perspective.I wonder why something like this hasn't be written before,a few years ago ,someone attended his 200th[or 250th?]Pogues gig,now he must have 1001 stories to tell.I look forward to reading this book which i shall be ordering in about 20 seconds.

For sure Mr.McClusky could probably fill up a few volumes of Pogues related stories, now that someone has started the ball rolling, this might open up the floodgates. There are very few books published from a fans perspective and those that have been were generally disappointing, TBNOIT is probably one of the best music related books ever written if not the best ever debut.I was once approached by a publisher[i think]more then 20 years ago ,asking me if i would be interested in doing a joint effort with a writer who was keen to publish a book on The Pogues, though he/she wanted to focus mostly on Shane.I refused point blank, turning down a considerable amount of money in the process and i don't have any regrets,no amount of money would have made me spill the beans. So, here i am in my cardoard box wondering if i did the right thing all those years ago, that money would only have made me even more miserable!

Being a slow reader I’ve just finished “The Best Night Out In Town”. It’s incredible to think that the author first saw The Pogues at Leeds University in 1986, the year I was born. I really wish I had seen the band in the 80s, the way it’s described, the experience, makes me jealous. I really enjoyed this book, the football, the bits about life, whether it be good or bad. Reading about The Pogues in books is fabulous, this one was very entertaining, and a bit different, as it was the thoughts of a fan. It’s one of the best books I’ve ever had the pleasure to read, and where better to tell the world, than here, on The Pogues fans forum, in my first post.

Villa John, I Just wanted to thank you for the kind comments in regards to my book, and also for the review that you wrote on Amazon (it had to be you, too much of a coincidence, as in you were approached to write a book). Receiving praise from a Pogues veteran like yourself means a lot to me, and I appreciate you taking the time to let me, and others that read this forum, know your' thoughts. Cheers.

Pogue Bairn (great name by the way!) At the moment, there's no need to be jealous pal, as long as the band keep on playing live gigs, when they are on top of their game, it's every bit as good now, as it was back in the day....that's my opinion anyway. Thank you for the great comments about how you enjoyed the book, great of you to write about that on your' first post, I'm truly honoured! Get to as many future Pogues shows as you can, I try to make it a priority, and I'm lucky, as I have a very understanding wife, who's nuts about The Pogues too, that makes things a LOT easier. Thanks again, for your' very kind comments. All the best.

I loved reading your piece about seeing The Pogues for the first time. My baptism came at Manchester in 2004 when if I'm honest, was dragged along to see The Saw Doctors. I had been aware of The Pogues before then, but not in a big way. The concert was like something I'd never experienced before it was just a huge party and I loved it. I'm a big fan of first time experiences, which is maybe a bit daft but that's what I like reading about. I guess you are right I am lucky because at that first gig at Manchester they were all there as Cait O' Riordan sang a couple of songs with the band. I've been obsessed ever since. Your book has got me in the mood to start writing about it all, even if I do find writing a struggle. Any advice would be welcome.
