Hopefully this may make its way into my christmas stocking. I think any of us who have followed the band over the years can pick most of James's words from the first paragraph of the foreward and apply them to ourselves - I'm not sure i can add any.

Looks like a good read though

I've read extracts of this book. I thoroughly recommend it. It's the first book I've encountered that tells of the ups, and downs, of following a band as an ordinary fan. Oh yeah, hands up, I've contributed a small piece to the book, which obviously makes it a classic ;)

Hi all,
As you'll hopefully know by now, my book "THE POGUES, THE BEST NIGHT OUT IN TOWN" comes out in the next few days, just in time for POGUETRY and much fun this December. I'll be in the boozer, very close to the venues with copies of my books, should you be interested. It would be great to see you, a bar and Pogues company is a perfecto blend of social harmony is it not? Especially just before "The best night out in town" kicks off ! Familiar faces are great, new ones just fantastic, it's Pogues party time, let's have a pint or two of Black Gold!
MANCHESTER, O' SHEAS, 4.30-7. GLASGOW, THE CRYSTAL PALACE (WETHERSPOONS) 5.30-6.45. BRIXTON, 19TH, THE MARQUIS OF LORNE, 5.45-6.45. BRIXTON 20TH, THE CANTERBURY ARMS, 5.00-6.45. SEE WEBSITE FOR FULL DETAILS.
Next week is a huge one in The Pogues calendar, enjoy yourselves. NAVIGATOR, NAVIGATOR !!!

I bought my copy from Calum while in town for the Brixton show on the 19th. I read it the following weekend and while it was nicely written, I would have liked more of a concert review of the actual shows that Calum went to. As it is written he just tells us basically for the most part whether he enjoyed the show or not and very little details about the performances. Still a must read for any Pogues fan of course!

So, bought this one direct from Calum at the pub before the Manchester gig. Was a pleasure to meet him!

Finished his wonderful book yesterday! Really enjoyed to read it. Great to have a book from a fans view.

I can recommend it to everyone who has at least a little love for The Greatest Band Ever

Cheers from Germany

(PS: Hope to meet you at one of the next shows again, mate!)

Thanks for your' kind words Hennybhoy ! Yes, will definitely have to meet up next time, It's my round, I'm sure you've not forgotten ! Really pleased that you enjoyed reading my book, great to hear that from a Pogues fan. It was brilliant to see you in Manchester. I actually thought that the Manchester gig was the best one out of the 4 dates in December, so your' choice of gig was spot on !

Regards from a very chilly, Jockland.

Hi Folke, thank you for your' comment on my book. I was trying to be careful not to "over do" the review thing of the shows, especially from the first reunion in 2001 onwards, as by and large, the band's set list has been much the same, bar a few tweaks here and there. Still, I respect your' opinion (that's what it's all about) and I thank you for reading my story. Cheers.

I have just finished reading the pogues "the best night out in town..and it was fantastic..it made me laugh out loud, which is rare for me with a book, so moving in areas but felt i was at the concerts, thanks to calum's descriptive writing, ive always liked the pogues, but now i reallllly want to listen to their stuff..!!!! I have the pleasure of knowing nearly all the colourful characters in the book, through the Hibby connection and my big bro jimmy, as mentioned in the book. I would recommend it to anyone its funny, moving..and calum you missed yer vocation son, i never pegged you as a writer and a very entertaining one at that. I wish you all the best with this venture and wish you and the lovely Teresa all the best. My daughter is reading it now and i can hear her laughing!!!!! GGTTH..xxxxx
