Free-wheeling, vigorous debate is a treat. People carping at each other? Not so much . . . .The mods and facilitator(s) invest a great deal of time-care-love into Medusa, and a great many users care passionately about the site. I think the function of Medusa is way better represented by the Life Sucks thread than this exasperating thread.

Aren't we supposed to be getting pissed off at injustices like cuts to social programmes, racism and self-interested politicians? Aren't we supposed to be giving support to each other through thick and thin? What derelict and his wife are enduring is, excuse me, beyond what many of us can comprehend.

What the fuck are we wasting our time on Acceptable Conversation Topics for? I'm outta here.

Mmmm, good bit of tasteful advice there, and thank goodness it is above the belt.

And thank goodness we have the freedom on this forum to talk about things that we believe to be unfair. I also think life is treating Derelict and his wife unfairly, and there are other members of this forum who have very serious health problems as well. Some can talk about it, some can't, so before digging the knife in further, maybe this could be considered. I don't think it is wrong of me to speak out when I think something is unfair, and I do think there is a moderator who is either having fun with my posts, or being spiteful because I speak out too much. Otherwise, why hasn't the previous discussion with soulfinger and DzM been moved, or why at least hasn't soulfinger's quote been moved into the Philosopher's thread? If it was, soulfinger, would you feel that it had been moved out of context when you thought it was relevant to this thread? If it kept happening, would you ever ask, or would you always accept it? If I saw this happening all the time maybe I wouldn't ask why my posts seem to be moved so often. And they are not always off topic, we've been through all this before.

Anyway my original problem wasn't that I got my nose out of joint because my post had been moved, but because it had been placed, so I believe, in a very inappropriate conversation. Thank you DzM for placing an explanation on that thread.

Despite your contempt, I hold that Relationships With People: Serious Business. It doesn't matter if those relationships exist on the Internet or in the Real World. Either way, people that are pricks just because they can be aren't people I enjoy spending time with unless I have a relationship with them that allows all the participants to understand the context. Just 'cause we're on The Internets doesn't magically grant me more patience for assholes.

The Internets are just a series of networks (not tubes as is the misconception), but the social connections these networks allow are, in fact, Serious Business (and not just in the "Ooo, I started a DotCom!" way) and Real. The relationships that are formed using The Internets have broken up marriages, and formed other marriages, reconnect best friends, build new friendships, allow people to communicate efficiently over vast differences, and allow the rapid transmission of information that previously had taken days or months to transport (medical records, etc). The Internets are just as Serious Business commercial air travel fifty years earlier, as telephones and telegrams were fifty years before that, mail was two centuries before that, or the Gutenberg Press was a century before that. To cavalierly dismiss what this series of interconnected networks make possible (both positive and negatively) is to dismiss a vital tool that has a very real impact of people's lives all around the world.

Or ... You know ... LOLZ! I SAID FUNNY! PEOPLE AND RELATIONSHIPS IMPORTANT! HA HA! LOLLLLZZZ!!1!

If I was a paranoid person I'd wonder where my post went regarding Jenny's trolley?

I'd also echo Phil's point that if you consider this place akin to a pub, you'll have conversations melding into the ether. If person A complains about going to a funeral while person B complains about getting under, those 2 points can be made at the same time without degrading the other.
I wish I'd done biology for an urge within me wanted to do it then

Personally, I wouldn't be bothered if my posts were moved. I understand that this is an important issue for you and agree that what happened to your "trolley" post was really unfortunate. DZM took appropriate action to highlight what had happened. derelict is a longstanding Medusan, who I think is a fine bloke who wouldn't take anything amiss. I

have my own opinion on why your posts get moved and suspect if you didn't respond when they were, it would happen less and less. (I spend a lot of time around psychologists, so feel qualified to expound :P ).

I like it here. I think DZM and the mods do a good job. Nice people mostly hang around and say interesting things. Nasty people mostly don't stay. One or two have had to be shipped but I think the decisions to do this have not been hasty and have, on the whole, been right.

Chill. It'll all be OK. :) :)
