This is a warning regarding the following post made by you: viewtopic.php?f=30&p=133000#p133000 .

This is an inappropriate way to interact with people here. Be civil or go away.

Don't threaten me hiding behind your self appointed rules. You treat people here like crap i.e; Oirish. So take it on the chin, you sook. If you can dish it out yourself, you can sure as hell take it

Is this another way of saying you want to have sex with someone?

Another way to admit he is looking for troubles.

Gurrier! You've become frolicsome recently. Carried away with posting or going to leave us suddenly?
Nerves, hormones, spring, virility.. It's all understandable. But bother to keep yourself in hand. At least here.

Have a bit of life-blood about yourself. I'm sorry, what should I really be discussing more? For future reference please provide the board with a comprehensive list of pre-determined topics that do not encroach upon your pinhole view of the world and the people residing in it

I don't really know what bug has crawled up your butt, and the way you're attacking me makes me continue to not care.

If you (or anyone else) has criticism about how things are run here, I and the other Janitors are willing to listen as long as you're civil about it. Hell - sometimes we even change how things are done as a result. We're human, we make mistakes, we learn from them.

Regarding IrishRover - I have made great efforts to make sure I treat him fairly. Sometimes I haven't lived up to my own ideals, but I have never (in my opinion) treated him like crap.

But this is all fodder for another thread.

Since you've made my private warning to you public, I'll make the second one public too. Be civil or go away. I'm sorry that you've got a wild hair up your arse suddenly, as I've enjoyed your participation here for a long time. I am not willing to tolerate this kind of abuse against any participants here. I won't warn you a third time.

Seconded (non-banning)

For what its worth, it made me laugh. I wouldnt necessarily use the term myself, but its hardly an uncommon phrase. At least not in this part of the world anyway.

But he literally asked for it. Don't bite the hand that feeds you. At the risk of sounding like an arse lick you shouldn't really challenge a mod like he did. Rules are there so order is maintained.

If you say to the old bill "go on then, nick me !" you dont necessarily mean it though, mate

Anyway, very harsh. Thought we were a bit more liberal/tolerant around here !

I have to say I'm a bit puzzled. What was the exact crime? Wanting to make beast with two backs? Or telling someone to "blow it out [their] hole"? If the former, there are of course many ways of expressing this desire. The most savoury generally sound preposterous and fail to convey carnality. Shakespeare was aware of this and gave us some of the bawdier examples (not least "beast with two backs", of course) to enjoy and utilise and expand upon. Entire books have been written on "Shakespeare's Bawdy", in recognition of a vital and living part of our language. Remember "Bonk"? Shortlived, but useful while it lasted, because its somehow expressed its own perfunctoriness in the age (the yuppie 80s) of the perfunctory.

If on the other hand, "Blow it out your hole" is the offending phrase, I can only lament that we remain two (or even three or more) cultures divided by a common language. In my schooldays in Dublin, "Blow it out your hole", like "Get up the yard", was one of the milder forms of abuse, indicating indeed that its recipient merited no further attention. Not so much insulting as dismissive. I am no expert on English as she is spoken in Australia, but I have a hunch that the phrase has even less clout there, as someone else suggested.

My own recent intervention about how Oirish was being treated by some members was on the grounds that the abuse directed towards him amounted to bullying. Nobody got banned and Medusa sailed on undisturbed. I am not, nor would I want to be, the arbiter of what is and is not a bannable offense, and I imagine it sometimes requires the wisdom of Solomon, but I do believe there is a world of difference between bullying another member and flinging a minor derisory comment their way. Recently, a Medusan wrote a post to me which I personally found ad hominem and ugly in both content and style. I declared quickly and openly at the time that I had no wish to further engage directly with that member, and so it has remained and will remain. Again, nobody got banned and Medusa sailed on.

Gurrier had been given several warnings, both publicly and privately. Instead of a civil reply, he decided to go for an aggressive personal attack ("So take it on the chin, you sook." --- "... topics that do not encroach upon your pinhole view of the world and the people residing in it.").

Criticism is always welcome, but let’s try to stick to civility, please. The rules of this forum are far from being strict, and if we let everybody go on a spree, we risk the raft will sink down to the mire on the bottom like it has happened to too many fora and discussions in the online world.

Fellow Aussie what a bugger that you have gone and got yourself banned. And the entertaining Amy Winehouse thread has been locked. At least Philip was able to post a comment before the lockdown. God love you Philip.

It all seems so petty and unlike what I would have expected from Medusa.

Re: Exciting drama on our listing raft

Post Sat Feb 09, 2008 12:56 am

For whatever it's worth - Not all bans are permanent. Sometimes we all just need some time away from each other.

It's worth noting that I don't care if Gurrier wants to knock the back off of Amy Winehouse or his own mother. It's a classless expression, but so what? What he was warned about is the way he was interacting with me and Eric. I don't consider this civil:
Gurrier wrote:Jesus Christ, lighten up you prudes. Is there any semblance of a spare moment here when either of you aren't tongueing each others scrotums or what?

This and the rest of our conversation can be seen above.

I don't care if Gurrier likes me or not. I don't care if he says that I'm Super Duper Nice or A Tinpot Despot With Delusions Of Grandeur. I do, however, insist that people here treat each other with some level of civility. There have been many behind-the-scenes debates about where "appropriate" ends and "inappropriate" begins, and unfortunately we will never have a firm definition. It's like pornography - you just know it when you see it. Likewise for civility and a lack of.

I don't pretend that I, Zuzana or MacRua don't make mistakes when determining where the line falls. Sometimes we err on the side on conservative, and sometimes on the side of lenient. When we make mistakes we try to learn from them. I welcome your feedback. As long as the feedback is civil it's taken as constructive.

Soon Gurrier will be able to come back to us. I hope that he'll rejoin our community. I've enjoyed his participation for the last two years. I hope his participation can continue.
