Now we just have to figure out why frequently HTTP requests are lost (this causes images to not appear, CSS files to sometimes fail to appear, or the browser to sometimes randomly throw a "Zero sized reply" error). I swear it's due to the network link as no errors show up on Gir indicating any problem at all.

Hey! I think I found the problem.

It seems as though once, long ago, I raised the file descriptor (FD) limits of Gir (or Zim) from the default (1024) to something much larger (4096 I think). But at some point that change got lost. This limited the web server's FDs and ultimately required that all new requests get queued up. So for a long time we've been running with one queuing thread, 200 KA threads, etc and so forth. What it boils down to is that what should have been asynchronous request processing became synchronous.

I've fixed the limited FD problem (we're back up to 4096 now), and I haven't been able to reproduce the problem. If other people still see the problem (it'll exhibit itself as either images/icons not being displayed, or the whole of the forum suddenly looking very 1995 in its layout), please let me know.

I have noticed that during the last week that when I have the "new messages" screen pulled up and have read a few posts, then hit the "page refresh" button that the little orange page icons disappear and are replaced with text. Is this supposed to happen? NOTE: I am using Mozilla Firefox.

It's been a week since I've fixed this (or at least think I've fixed this). Has anyone seen this behavior in the last week? Anyone at all?

OK. It's been two weeks. I've been unable to reproduce the problem and nobody else has reported seeing it either. I'm going to consider this officially Closed. Yay! Gir is now all healthy again!

Great as far as I know. My typical method is to feed them sugar and then hand them back to their parents.
