On the "top" page of the fora, just above the forum names themselves.

Shouldn't need to.

Unfortunately the new version of the software uses some more strict forms of security checking. In theory it makes our online experience more secure, but it in fact turns out to be a Pain In The Arse.

I'm still fidgeting with the settings there to see what kind of compromise between security and usability we can achieve.

I am using Mozilla Firefox and do not need to log in each day. Could it be Philip's browser that is causing the problem?

Unlikely.

Philip and a certain number of other users use an ISP whose network topology lends itself to this kind of badness by masking user's real address behind banks of proxy servers and, unfortunately, silently moving the users from proxy to proxy. This breaks the security model of any web site that ties session state ("This user is logged in.") to their computer's IP address.

This version of the software has a couple of tricks that it uses to try and verify that a session belongs to the browser trying to use it. The purpose of these checks is to make sure that User A isn't able to masquerade as User B. I'm slowly removing these checks in order to find the balance between usability and security, but may just decide "screw it." It's not like we're dealing with people's sensitive financial data here. I think basic precautions are probably good enough.

Anyway - Philip, Heather, and anyone else noticing this behavior. Please keep an eye on it and report back if the problems persists. I've twiddled more things. Hopefully it will go away now.

I am experiencing an odd annoyance.
As opposed to my usual "annoyingly odd" self.

As I view a topic, the background on the replies changes as I scroll.

The ecru background appears in the topmost reply or two (seems space dependent, more ecru with shorter replies), and as I scroll down (IE7 on Vista ((keep the vista jokes to yourself, you geek :D !)) the ecru bounces down to the next reply, while the lower replies have the beigey/slatey style background.

Weird.

Your words all have individual meaning, but assembled like this they become a confusing and twisty maze of corridors and passages.

Pleased to be sending screen shots.

My english, she is not so good. But she is not that bad either.

As I scroll, the ecru kind of stays as the background of the upper replies, and the other color behind the lower replies. That is, if I were to scroll down on the above image, MissWalshy's reply's background would change to the ecru, while BoS remained the other color. Should I further scroll down, BoS would swap to ecru and the succeding replies remain the other color (which is what, exactly? Brownish Gray? Grayish Brown?).

Scrolling back up reverses things.

Not a big deal, boss, but since you asked............

I looked in Search but did not find. What's the dif between bookmark this forum and subscribe to this forum?

From here: faq.php#f80
Bookmarking in phpBB3 is much like bookmarking in your web browser. You aren’t alerted when there’s an update, but you can come back to the topic later. Subscribing, however, will notify you when there is an update to the topic or forum on the board via your preferred method or methods.

What this means is that Bookmarks appear in your User Control Panel under the heading "Manage Bookmarks." Any thread/topic you've bookmarked will be listed there for fast and easy access.

Subscribe means that you will be notified via your preferred mechanism (typically email) when the subscribed thread/topic has been posted to.

Right, it's not forums but topics of course and I see the difference between bookmarks and subscribing now. Thanks as ever.

DZM, the Manage Foes feature is brilliant, no longer do I have to put up with reading crap from the (few) people who annoy me here. :D

I was just wondering if there was anyway that you could block a topic that you don't want to read, or do I have to just keep skipping them. Please excuse me if someone has asked this before, I tend to miss things sometimes.

An ignore threat/topic/forum feature does not currently exist. I understand that someone is working on one though. It may magically appear in the future.

I love the design and features of the new forum.. But for me it takes ages to load one page in Internet Explorer. Other than that I really love the new design.
