If anyone sees this again, please make note of the exact error message you see and somehow communicate it to me (email, PM, post here, whatever works for you).

Thanks
DzM

It told me that it was an http 500 ( internal server error ). It lasted for about three or four days.

It seems to be working now, but for a few days last week I was getting something about a "stub handling error" on my home computer - a Mac using Safari, but a "http 500 (internal server error)" at work - a PC using Explorer.

At several points over the weekend I couldn't get onto the site. No error message, just Firefox timing the attempt out.

When I make a post I get the following message:

Could not connect to smtp host : 111 : Connection refused

It does appear that the post gets made.

Alrighty - The Stub Handling Error and 500 Server Error were legitimate, but should not have lasted for days. May have come and gone once or twice for an hour os o over several days though. Could have just been bad luck on timing for you.

The SMTP 11 error is a known problem. I'm working on it. You can safely ignore it. That basically means that Medusa tried to send someone an email (the "Watch This Thread" feature at work), but the mail server puked.

I've had no problems with getting on, except on the odd occassion pages are slow to load, or don't load and I have to go back and try again.

The odd thing though is I'm not being informed by E-Mail that I have received PM's and this usually happens automatically.

I had to do without the forum for 4 days and it was hard! No joke, I spend obvious to much time here and found it hard to spend the extra time on something else.. :oops:
If this was due to my timing, then I must have had very, very bad timing because I've tried sooo many times to log on.
Enough of that, it's back and I'm happy!

just so ya know, the XXV logo gets stuck in one spot when viewing the site from an iPhone. That spot being the lower rightcorner of the page when first open, staying there even when i scroll down and blocking whatever text it was blocking in the first place.

It's rough. ;-)

It is indeed quite nice. Before the iPhone I typically only checked in while at work because I rarely get on the computer otherwise. I was on vacation this past week and checked out the goings on every day.

<!--XXX JMCCABE

Post Thu Nov 01, 2007 8:13 pm

as I try to get to various pages on the site I instead get a white screen with only this cryptic message:

<!--XXX JMCCABE

I can not discern any rhyme or reason to this happening but it took several attempts to get to the site feedback page to mention it. I am logged on from my home PC running IE7

Sounds like things are Teh Broken.

Is that all that you're seeing? Cause honestly, I'm having no problem at all. Notta one.

A quick peak at the HTML for the page says that this is near the very top:

Code: Select all
<!-- DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN"
"http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd" -->
<!-- <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"> -->
<!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01 Transitional//EN">
<html>
<head>
<meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=iso-8859-1" />
<meta http-equiv="Content-Style-Type" content="text/css" />
<!--XXX JMCCABE
Add RSS meta tag -->
<link rel="alternative" title="Pogues fora RSS" href="/forum/rss.php" type="application/rss+xml" />
<link rel="top" href="./index.php" title="The Medusa Fora" />

So if you're seeing the XXX JMCCABE bit then it implies that your browser is not getting the rest of the page, and is dutifully trying to display what it has received thus far.

Could be transient network turbulence. Could be Gir (the server) having fits.

I'll keep an eye on things. See if I can spot a pattern.
