DzM -- Any way you can pull a couple of stats from Medusa? I'm thinking # of words could be calculated. And then # of words per post (average). We could then compare it to the total posts and the average posts per day.

Well ... This is imprecise stuff, but here goes:

At this moment there are 55,555 posts in the database (of a total of 60,608 posted - approximately 5,000 have gone away over the last 2.5 years for various reasons).

Total number of words (not counting subject lines), stripping out the BBCode markup and HTML encoding of special characters (quotes and ampersands mostly) is 2,310,285.

Average number of words per post is 41.6.

I can do some more analysis if you're curious. Average word size, etc. It'll take some more digging to make that happen, but it could be fun.

Summary:

Posts: 55,555
Words: 2,310,285
Avg. words per post: 41.6

Amazing. 55,555. Somehow I think you are funnin. I was thinking .......by person. Like Walshy's word count vs. Fintan's, etc... All of this "me too" talk has me curious how we all stack up.

DZM, I was just wondering, when I go into a forum at them top of the page where it says Members Using This Forum sometimes it says "None" even though I'm in that Forum and sometimes it will show my name, any reason for this?

Wild guess on this:

The "Who's using" statistic is based upon who's been using that particular fora over the last five minutes. When you first enter the fora you don't count as having been there in the last five minutes. When you re-load the page you will then appear in the list.

I'd speculate that this is happening due to the order in which the page is drawn and the internal data tables are updated. Rather than this order:

Insert UID into table
Get list of UIDs in table
Get list of messages
Generate HTML

it's probably doing something like this:

Get UIDs in table
Get list of messages
Generate HTML
Insert UID into table

The odd thing about this is that the main page accurately reflects whose using things, so it is likely doing the first sequence. Strange that They would be inconsistent on that.

The forum software draws the page and then makes note that it was you that the page was drawn for. It would be better if the software made note that it's about to draw a page for you and then drew it.
