Raise up yer dongers, ye heroes!

Post Wed May 21, 2008 11:28 am

This merging/dredging proves that it is not, as has been suggested, a recent few who have caused discord on Medusa, but an ongoing issue of censorship. Very interesting reading. Thank you.

Re: The Acceptable Conversation Topic Thread

Post Thu May 22, 2008 10:23 am

I'd noticed that having been away for 4 days that there weren't too many new posts, but then I'd been off working away for 4 days and as I couldn't sit on the interweb as I do while I'm in work, it didn't worry me.
Is there a distinct drop off in visitors?
I've been around various mailing lists and incarnations of the Billy Bragg list in the past 10+ years and folks come and go for whatever reason regardless of the content of the pages. There are still 2 Braggy email lists active, I've been trying to produce a MySpace cover/tribute page and the email lists are dead while the Forum ploughs on - (DZM, don't see you there much anymore  ) people's lives change and a persons priority can change overnight, what was once a 'habit' becomes an un-necessary distraction, that's how life goes and why should a human driven, cyber-medium should be any different?

I've been pootling through the pages and I really don't see anything that needs changing.
I wish I'd done biology for an urge within me wanted to do it then

The number of visitors and the traffic flow is consistent. People are simply not posting much right now. Like you said - there's a natural ebb and flow.

Sixteen pages worth of the same thing now swept under the proverbial messageboard rug...now that's saying something. No wonder people leave here in droves

I'm out. On an end note I wonder if DZM flosses his hind-quarters with antiseptic treated silk handkerchiefs several dozen times a day, then alphabetises them into categories? Wanker.

Gurrier ye hero!

Post Sat May 24, 2008 5:27 am

Not elegant derelict, but eloquent.

To lose Gurrier from this forum is to put another nail in its coffin as far as I'm concerned. A shame that the colourful characters are leaving or post rarely (except for Oirish, thank Christ!!!) because there's only so much What Book Are You Reading that one can take. Even that black sheep moderator MacRua is mostly absent. At least with him there is the small chance of a decent argument.

Anyone who has questioned the running of this forum has been crucified, with all and sundry coming out of the woodwork to praise DzM instead of looking at the arguments with an open mind to possible change. Like one little comment from TheIrishRover yesterday brought forth "if you don't like it here then fuck off." No one needs to be told that, we all know we can refrain from the little click that brings us here, if that's what we want.

Gurrier you will be missed here, in fact your absence is already evident.

Interesting. I have been refraining from argument, but I can certainly provide one if required..........

Oh, do you want stimulating or an argument?

I don't see that Medusa is any less stimulating than it has been, so if you're looking for that, well, it's been here. And you of course realize your compliment by implying Medusa has at least been, in fact, stimulating. That is a great deal more than one can say of other similar fan-run sites which don't even offer the opportunity to have the freedom of interaction (such as it is, Gurrier-PLEASE RECONSIDER!) DzM provides.

I have to allow that I also miss some of the old familiar folks (Johan? Where the FUCK are you?), but life happens, and sometimes hitting Medusa just isn't as important anymore. For all sorts of reasons, not only conflicts with management.

As to argument, I'll keep my eye out for appropriate (and on occasion inappropriate) battles to fight. I don't want you to go, so I will try, not that it's been my thing recently. My boss once told me I have a literary voice best suited to instruction manuals, so the whizbang wordsmithery (a la our antipodean fishfriend) is not on the program.

To start me off, would you characterize this very post as sufficiently stimulating and/or argumenative? Or should I turn it up a notch?

Now, about my boob size. I am not now, nor have I ever been, a c-cup. A b-cup at most.

Ask DzM. He was the last one to feel me up (sadly yes, DzM, it has been that long.... :( ), the censorious, Stalinist, butt-flossing vagina.

And if you'll pardon my saying, jennylois, you seem to be the rare person to enjoy severe rudeness and downright personal nastiness, even if it is just assholes like us on teh IntraWebs. Don't get me wrong, I ALSO am like that, but I just haven't met (heh, like we've met!) too many who do.

EDITED: to highlight the sarcasm in my DzM remarks, and for clarity regarding man-boob-feeling. Sorry, DzM for any confusion!

Just discovered this thread. Weird.
I always considered Medusa to be among the least problematic and friendliest fora I posted on. Irritating and surprising to read that there are people who think otherwise.

Please stop comparing a forum and it's rules to either Stalin or Hitler or Whatever. That is a stupid analogy and it makes your arguments look desperate/stupid.

The annoying argumentative people may be missed by the noisy few, but not by the silent majority.

 Well, I just would like some good conversation without fear of it being ripped to pieces/split/moved. We're all adults here (or were until Clash brought in his children, but that's another argument), and really, I can't understand why some things have been censored. I can't be bothered going back over previous stuff, but the evidence is there. Also what I find hilarious obviously isn't funny to others here, but does that mean that my posts have to be removed?? Is this a cultural thing? Do Australians have such a different sense of humour? I wouldn't have thought so. Just this morning I have noticed that another of my posts has been removed from yesterday. I thought it was funny. It must have been thought offensive, and I can't repeat it here cos it will just get removed again from the Shopping List thread. Truly in my opinion, a very mild and funny little piece of tripe, sure, but not worth deleting. And in this current climate on Medusa, ie B O R I N G, I would have thought anything a teensy bit funny would be welcomed. And yes I generally like it here and don't wish to fuck off, but my interest is lagging and I'm not the only one who feels like this. I've had enough of all the log book entries here, they seem to be where the main activity is.

DownInTheGround that is very nasty of you to say that those like me who are more outspoken, wouldn't be missed. You're certainly not one of the silent majority, dead as you may well be. Or are you a worm?

And one more thing, I think this thread should be out in the Speakers Corner section, not hidden away safely, it is after all not an 'ANNOUNCEMENT'

Do you have a problem with my children posting?
And I don't want no grave
Just throw my ashes in the field
And hope there's some soul left to save
